The K‑pop world is about to gain an intimate look at one of its most versatile stars. Always Lalisa, a documentary directed by Sue Kim, chronicles Lisa’s transformative first year away from Blackpink as she forges a solo path. The film is slated to hit theaters worldwide on Oct. 12, with an exclusive YouTube Premium streaming window to follow later in the year.

Directorial Vision and Background

Sue Kim, whose recent Apple TV+ documentary The Last of the Sea Women earned an Oscar nomination, brings a keen eye for personal storytelling to Always Lalisa. Over a twelve‑month period, Kim embedded herself with Lisa, capturing behind‑the‑scenes moments that have never been shown to the public. The 97‑minute feature reveals the singer’s efforts to reconnect with childhood friends, the creative process behind her debut album “Alter Ego,” and her acting debut on HBO’s acclaimed series The White Lotus.

Theatrical Release & Streaming Details

Trafalgar Releasing will manage the limited theatrical run, opening tickets for sale on Sept. 9. Audiences can experience the documentary in standard cinemas and IMAX formats, emphasizing the visual richness of Lisa’s journey. Following the theater window, YouTube Premium will host an exclusive stream, a partnership highlighted by Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s global head of music, who described the deal as a natural extension of the platform’s strong connection with Lisa’s fan base.

Festival Premiere and Production Partners

Before its commercial debut, Always Lalisa will enjoy a world premiere in the gala program at the Toronto International Film Festival this month. The project is a collaborative effort produced by Sony Music Vision alongside RCA Records, Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions, and LLOUD—the company Lisa founded after departing her longtime label. This coalition underscores the industry’s confidence in the documentary’s appeal across music, film, and digital audiences.

Lisa’s Recent Milestones

The release arrives amid a particularly active chapter in Lisa’s career. Earlier this year she co‑headlined the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Anitta and Rema, becoming the first Thai and female K‑pop artist to grace that stage. She also served on the Met Gala host committee, marking another first for a K‑pop star. Looking ahead, Lisa is preparing a Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace slated for November and will drop a new EP titled “Press Play” on Oct. 23. Beyond music, she has two Netflix projects in development: an action film titled Tygo where she stars and executive produces, and an untitled romantic comedy. Her influence continues to expand through high‑profile fashion campaigns for houses such as Celine, Bulgari, and Louis Vuitton.

What Audiences Can Expect

Viewers of Always Lalisa can anticipate a candid portrayal of Lisa’s artistic evolution. The documentary balances concert‑style footage with quieter, reflective scenes—such as Lisa revisiting her hometown and collaborating with longtime friends on camera. Insight into the creation of “Alter Ego,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, offers fans a deeper appreciation of her musical versatility. Meanwhile, glimpses of her acting work on The White Lotus highlight her expanding skill set beyond the stage.

 A Global Pop Icon’s Rise

Always Lalisa promises to be more than a typical music documentary; it is a nuanced narrative of ambition, identity, and creative risk‑taking. With a theatrical rollout beginning Oct. 12, a festival showcase at TIFF, and a subsequent YouTube Premium exclusive, the film is positioned to reach both dedicated fans and newcomers alike. As Lisa continues to break barriers—from World Cup stages to Met Gala events—the documentary offers a timely snapshot of an artist redefining what it means to be a global pop icon in 2026 and beyond.
