Season 3 of Euphoria doesn’t ease you in—it hits you hard right from the start. The show lets go of its central character, Rue, and throws everyone into a new round of grief. At the same time, Ali, once just a mentor, steps forward for his own personal reckoning. There’s a lot to unpack, so here’s a straight, scene-by-scene rundown of how everything fell apart—and what came after. (Spoiler alert: nothing will be the same.)

1. Rue Bennett’s Last Hours

We’re dropped right into chaos. Rue—played by Zendaya—has just escaped Laurie’s warehouse, battered and desperate, still holding onto cash from Wayne’s vault. She’s hurting, both physically and emotionally, after Harley dragged her through mud and messed up her hand. She can’t resist the bottle of Percocet that Alamo gave her, and as she stays with Ali, the pills win. Things get hazy fast and Rue drifts into a dream, imagining Fezco breaking out of prison, trying to reconnect with her mom at home—but she can never quite reach her.

When morning comes, Ali finds Rue lifeless on his couch, empty pill bottle right in front of her. He tests the pills and discovers they’re laced with fentanyl. So, Rue’s gone. And with that, Euphoria flips everything on its head.

Key moment: Rue’s death rewrites the entire emotional landscape of the show.

2. Laurie’s Final Escape

Before everyone really even processes Rue’s death, Laurie takes her own way out. DEA agents stop Laurie’s smuggling bus, and she chooses not to face the consequences. The camera catches her up on her building’s roof, tying a noose, and she jumps. The rest of her crew—including one of Alamo’s guys—gets busted. Faye and Wayne slip away after finding out the drug shipment was swapped for laxatives.

Why this matters: Laurie’s suicide is another reminder of the endless cycle of loss in Euphoria—one tragedy after another.

3. Fast Forward: Grief, Hustle, & Ali’s War

The story jumps ahead by months. Rue’s friends try to move on, but it’s tough. Ali, though, changes. He won’t be the wise sponsor anymore—he’s fueled by loss and goes out for revenge. He starts looking for Alamo, the drug dealer whose tainted stash killed Rue.

Cassie, meanwhile, turns her home into an OnlyFans operation to pay off Nate’s debts. She hands the cash to Maddy, and tells her to bring it to Alamo as thanks. But things get messy fast when they confront Alamo.

Lexi and Cassie talk things out; Lexi finds the Bible Rue left her and says it helped her find some peace.

At Alamo’s club, Maddy’s ready to fight, but Alamo throws a curveball—he proposes to her, asks her to start a family. The tension snaps when Ali storms in with a weapon, demanding Alamo. Shots fly. Alamo goes down, thanks in part to Bishop sabotaging his ammo, and Ali gets his revenge.

Turning point: Ali’s payback is raw and final—he kills Alamo and finally closes the book on Rue’s death.

4. Epilogue: Saying Goodbye

Things wind down with Ali at a quiet Texas property. He tells the family Rue’s “in a better place,” then sits for dinner, imagining Rue smiling at the table—peace at last, or as close as anyone gets in this story.

Final Thoughts

Season 3 of Euphoria is brutal. Losing Rue leaves everyone shaken—she was the heart of the show. Now, with Ali’s transformation, things skew toward vengeance and uncertain redemption. You’re left picking through grief, addiction, and questions of whether anyone can find peace after so much loss.
