Netflix’s Superpowered Saga The WONDERfools Sets May 2026 Premiere
Mark your calendars for May 15, 2026! Netflix has officially confirmed the global release date for one of its most eagerly awaited Korean Originals, the superhero drama The WONDERfools. Headlined by a powerhouse duo of Korean stars, this series promises a fresh and thrilling take on the superhero genre.
A World of Flawed Powers: The Premise
The WONDERfools introduces viewers to a reality where superhumans walk among us. However, the series shifts the spotlight to those with imperfect abilities, dubbed “defective superhumans.” These individuals grapple with powers they cannot fully control or summon at will, exploring the challenges and complexities of living with gifts that are also burdens.
Behind the Scenes: A Creative Dream Team
The project boasts an impressive creative pedigree. The narrative is helmed by writer Kang Eun Kyung, renowned for her intricate world-building in the hit series Gyeongseong Creature. Directing duties fall to Yoo In Shik, who previously directed the global phenomenon Extraordinary Attorney Woo. This combination of writing prowess and directorial sensitivity sets high expectations for the series’ quality.
Meet the Stellar Cast
The ensemble cast is led by two of South Korea’s most beloved actors.
Park Eun Bin takes on the role of Eun Chae Ni. Already a familiar face to international audiences for her award-winning portrayal of Woo Young Woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Park has solidified her status as a top-tier leading lady with credits like Castaway Diva and The King’s Affection.
Opposite her is the immensely popular Cha Eun Woo, playing Lee Un Jeong. While a global superstar from his time in the K-pop group Astro and his successful solo career, Cha Eun Woo is also a seasoned actor acclaimed for roles in True Beauty and My ID Is Gangnam Beauty. The WONDERfools marks his highly anticipated debut in a Netflix Original series. Notably, this will be his final project before his mandatory military service, which began in July 2025, making it his last drama appearance for approximately three years.
They are joined by a formidable supporting cast including Kim Hae Sook (Strong Girl Namsoon), Choi Dae Hoon (One Dollar Lawyer), Im Sung Jae (Black Knight), and Son Hyun Joo (The Good Detective).
Production Timeline and Official Announcement
Filming for the series commenced on October 22, 2024, and wrapped successfully on May 22, 2025. The official release date was unveiled as part of Netflix’s 2026 Korean content slate announcement on April 17, 2026, alongside a captivating date announcement trailer that has sent fans into a frenzy.
