Streaming giant Netflix has officially unveiled the preview trailer and launch schedules for the upcoming Swedish comedic feature, The Storm. Helmed by acclaimed creator and actor Josephine Bornebusch, the project promises a blend of dark humor and psychological tension. Film enthusiasts can mark their calendars for a limited theatrical run across Sweden starting October 2, 2026, followed by a worldwide digital release on Netflix on October 15, 2026.
When a Blizzard Collides with Hidden Truths
Summarizing the chaotic vibe of the narrative, the production team notes, “Throw in a power outage, a snowstorm and too many glasses of wine, and our true selves emerge.”
The storyline revolves around Filip, who is celebrating his 45th milestone birthday. He hosts an intimate gathering for his inner circle at a recently acquired, luxurious countryside estate in northern Sweden. However, celebratory moods quickly sour when a brutal blizzard cuts off electricity and traps the attendees indoors. As isolation sets in and panic takes hold, the opulent surroundings feel increasingly claustrophobic. Under pressure, the characters’ carefully maintained facades shatter, long-kept secrets spill into the open, and deeply buried emotions boil to the surface.
A Star-Studded Nordic Ensemble
The film boasts an impressive lineup of well-known Scandinavian talent. The ensemble cast features Gustaf Skarsgård, Aliette Opheim, Filip Berg, and writer-director Josephine Bornebusch herself. They are joined by Jonas Karlsson, Johan Rheborg, Christopher Wagelin, Sara Shirpey, Gizem Erdogan, Henrik Dorsin, Nils Wetterholm, and Nicole Levin.

Anticipation Builds for the Global Launch
Dark comedies centered around isolated groups often rely on sharp dialogue and intense character dynamics, and The Storm appears to be no exception. By trapping a group of successful individuals in a remote location and stripping away their societal armor, the movie explores human fragility under stress. With Bornebusch at the helm, audiences can expect a masterclass in tension wrapped in biting wit.
Whether you plan to catch it on the big screen during its Swedish theatrical run or stream it from the comfort of your couch later that month, The Storm is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Nordic releases of the year.
