The long-awaited whistle has finally blown. After a three-year hiatus that left fans wondering if they would ever see the diamond dogs again, Apple TV+ has officially confirmed that Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season. Arriving just in time to capitalize on the global fever of the 2026 World Cup, the award-winning comedy is set to make its comeback this August, bringing with it a fresh perspective on the beautiful game.
Mark Your Calendars: The Release Schedule
Apple announced on Tuesday that the inaugural episode of Season 4 will debut on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Following the premiere, the streaming giant will release new installments every Wednesday, concluding the season on October 7. To stir up excitement, a new teaser trailer has been unveiled, offering a glimpse of the heartfelt humor that made the show a global phenomenon. Along with the footage, a new first-look image has been released, confirming that the spirit of Richmond remains as vibrant as ever.
A New Goal: Coaching the Women’s League
While the initial three seasons focused on the male-dominated world of the Premier League, Season 4 introduces a significant narrative shift. Ted Lasso will be returning to Richmond, but this time his coaching talents will be directed toward a second-division women’s football club. This creative pivot allows the series to explore new dynamics within the sport while maintaining the “believe” philosophy that defined its earlier years.
The Band is Back Together: Returning and New Cast Members
Addressing months of speculation regarding the involvement of the original stars, Apple has confirmed a full-scale reunion. Jason Sudeikis returns as the titular coach, joined by fan-favorites Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift.
The ensemble grows even larger this year with the addition of several talented newcomers to the pitch. Joining the Richmond family for the first time are Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. This blend of seasoned veterans and fresh faces promises to reinvigorate the series’ signature chemistry.
The Creative Powerhouse Behind the Scenes
Despite the lengthy break, Ted Lasso continues to be a crown jewel for Apple TV+, having secured 13 Emmy Awards, including back-to-back wins for Outstanding Comedy Series. To guide this next chapter, Jack Burditt, known for his work on Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, and 30 Rock, joins the production as an executive producer.
The original architects of the show remain heavily involved. Jason Sudeikis continues his dual role as star and executive producer, working alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Brett Goldstein remains a pivotal creative force as both writer and executive producer, alongside Leanne Bowen. The writing room for the upcoming season also includes Sarah Walker, Phoebe Walsh, Sasha Garron, Julia Lindon, and Dylan Marron.
The series, which originated from a character created for NBC Sports sketches, is produced by Bill Lawrence via Doozer Productions in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television. Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also return to their roles as executive producers for what is expected to be one of the biggest television events of 2026.
