Paramount Pictures Reveals an Exciting Sneak Peek at K‑Pop: The Debut

At KCON LA 2026, Paramount Pictures delighted fans and industry insiders by unveiling the inaugural trailer for K‑Pop: The Debut. The brief but striking footage offers a glimpse into the film’s vibrant world, highlighting the dazzling choreography, emotive performances, and the high‑stakes atmosphere of a global K‑pop competition. The reveal arrived amid a flurry of panel discussions and live showcases, positioning the movie as one of the most anticipated releases slated for early 2027.

Plot Overview: A Young Dreamer’s Journey to the Stage

The story follows Lizzy Lee (Ji‑young Yoo), a Korean‑American woman who has spent her life adhering to the expectations laid out by her family. When she unexpectedly earns a place in a televised contest designed to form the next flagship K‑pop girl group, Lizzy travels to Seoul, South Korea, to chase a passion she has long kept hidden. Surrounded by extraordinary talents from every corner of the globe, all vying for only four coveted spots, she must push beyond her perceived limits. As the competition intensifies, an unexpected ally—singer‑songwriter Eric Nam—offers guidance, helping Lizzy discover the confidence to embrace her identity, prove her worth, and claim a place on the world stage.

Stellar Cast Brings the Narrative to Life

Ji‑young Yoo leads the ensemble as Lizzy, delivering a nuanced portrayal of ambition and self‑discovery. Eric Nam appears as the supportive mentor whose own experiences in the music industry resonate with Lizzy’s struggle. The film also features Jitae Yoo, Tony Revolori, Gia Kim, Yim Si‑wan, Ahin Lee, Aliyah Turner, Renata Vaca, Sung Jun, Kang Sora, Hyongchol Lee, Silia Kapsis, Shana Kim, and Park Jubi. Each performer contributes a distinct flavor to the multinational roster, underscoring the film’s theme of unity through artistry.

Creative Team and Production Credits

Benson Lee directs the project, bringing his keen eye for visual storytelling to the musical drama format. The screenplay originates from Elyse Hollander and Eileen Shim, based on an original screen story by Hollander. Produced by Scott Braun, James H. Shin (p.g.a.), Arthur Spector (p.g.a.), Bryan Oh, and Joshua Davis, the film benefits from seasoned industry veterans. Executive producers Martha Fernandez, John Zaozirny, Joshuah Bearman, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary provide additional oversight, ensuring a polished final product.

Production Backing and Release Details

K‑Pop: The Debut is presented by Paramount Pictures in association with Domain Entertainment. It is a collaborative effort between HYBE America and Epic Magazine, two entities renowned for shaping contemporary music and pop culture narratives. The film is scheduled for a theatrical debut on February 26, 2027, positioning it as a spring‑time highlight for audiences eager for fresh, music‑driven storytelling.

What Audiences Can Expect

Beyond the glossy performance numbers, the film promises an authentic exploration of cultural identity, familial pressure, and the transformative power of music. With original songs crafted specifically for the narrative, viewers will experience both the spectacle of K‑pop staging and intimate character moments that reveal the sacrifices behind the glamour. Early reactions to the trailer have praised its vibrant cinematography, energetic choreography, and the heartfelt chemistry between the leads, setting high expectations for the full release.
