Netflix is set to begin production on Nights & Days, a new drama series inspired by Maria Dąbrowska’s celebrated Polish novel. Directed by Kamila Tarabura, the project promises a deeply human portrayal of love, resilience, and the tensions between dreams and reality.

The story unfolds at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when Poland was absent from the European map. At its heart are Barbara Ostrzeńska, a proud yet financially struggling noblewoman, and Bogumił Niechcic, a pragmatic former insurgent who finds meaning in managing rural estates. What begins as a pragmatic marriage soon becomes a decades-long emotional journey, marked by personal sacrifices, conflicting desires, and the unrelenting pull of the past.

Tarabura’s vision captures the essence of Dąbrowska’s work while reframing it for modern audiences. “It’s both a reflection on romantic ideals and an honest look at the realities of building a life together,” she explains. “Barbara’s story is about compromise, longing, and the search for happiness — universal themes that resonate just as strongly today.”

Netflix describes Nights & Days as not only a love story but also a cultural bridge, connecting generations who grew up with the classic novel to new viewers discovering it for the first time. Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix’s Program Director for Central and Eastern Europe, emphasizes the company’s commitment to reimagining Polish literary classics: “Following the success of Forgotten Love and the excitement around our upcoming adaptation of Prus’s The Doll, this series continues our mission to showcase epic works of Polish culture to global audiences.”

The production brings together an accomplished creative team. Justyna Pawlak, known for the award-winning Netflix series Infamy, will serve as producer, with Tarabura at the helm. The screenplay is penned by Marta Bacewicz, Katarzyna Tybinka, and Tarabura herself. Cinematography will be led by Tomasz Naumiuk, with Ewa Mroczkowska as production designer and Justyna Stolarz handling costumes. The makeup department is headed by Karolina Kordas and Marta Jamajka Dąbrowska, while editing will be managed by Ajan Zajer and Beata Liszewska.

Over the course of the series, audiences will witness thirty years of Barbara and Bogumił’s shared life — an intricate tapestry of romantic yearning, practical compromise, and the constant negotiation between personal fulfillment and societal expectation. The lush Polish countryside will serve as more than just a backdrop; it will become a visual character in its own right, reinforcing the emotional depth and cultural richness of the narrative.

With filming set to commence soon under Greenlight Films, Nights & Days is positioned to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated historical dramas of the coming year. For fans of sweeping period stories and heartfelt character studies, this adaptation offers a rare chance to experience a cornerstone of Polish literature through the lens of contemporary storytelling.
