Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra (Soorarai Pottru in Tamil) is inspired by his story which was developed by adding some fictitious elements that is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video after skipping the theatrical release due to the shutdown of theatres imposed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Story-line
Chandra Mahesh (Suriya) from Chunduru in Guntur district aims high and always throws himself to be at the forefront of any agitation be it for a train halt following the footsteps of his father who happens to be the pioneer behind bringing electricity to the village.
His dream of introducing low-cost passenger aircraft takes him to various modes of life prompting him to leave a lucrative job in the Indian Air Force to pursue his dream. His efforts to convince Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal), the owner of leading Jaz airlines met with humiliation which made him stronger to realize his dream.
After a series of failures, Chandra Mahesh reaches his final glory and how he reached his goal and how his better half Sundari (Aparna Balamurali) and mother (Urvashi) supported him along with his friends who stood by him all through his ordeal is something to be watched on the screen only.
Performances
Suriya is a born actor and all he needs is a good script and a character to showcase his acting prowess. He got one in the form of Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra and has done what he is capable of doing all these years harnessing every bit of energy and potential he got for this film. While Sivaputrudu (Pithamagan in Tamil) is an icon in his career, Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra is the crowning glory that remains forever in the hearts of audiences.
The single scene where he asks his wife for a loan of Rs.15,000 is enough, to sum up his unbeatable performance in Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Aparna Balamurali is a stunning revelation. She has an aura of unique beauty around her that is appealing and her inclusion has made the film more magnetic. Her scenes with Suriya are highly mesmerizing and their onscreen chemistry is awe-inspiring.
Urvashi, Paresh Rawal, Prakash Belawadi, and in a significant character Mohan Babu all have contributed their might in taking this flight to newer heights with their spot-on performances.
Behind the scenes
The genius present inside the director Sudha Kongara Prasad is not new for those who watched her earlier films Irudhi Suttru, Saala Khadoos, or Guru which present human emotions and drama in equal proportions without going off target.
A true disciple of Mani Ratnam who is also famous for his perfect presentation of emotions and drama together, Sudha has done the same exercise with great perfection in Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra where there are many heart touching scenes along with some exciting drama making it a total package relying heavily on the characterization of a protagonist with a dream of flying high at a lesser cost.
G.V.Prakash Kumar, apart from the songs has done a marvelous job in composing a realistic background score which made the whole narrative sounds smarter and look brighter.
The photography of Niketh Bommireddy and editing of Sathish Suriya are in right place making the film a visual delight to watch.
Verdict and Rating
While Suriya is the man with the magic wand, it’s the concept; story and its execution by Sudha are the main crowd pullers that propel Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra to the higher altitudes.
It’s an inspiring story of a common man’s flight to success which once again reiterates that failures are stepping stones to success and those who have the grit, determination and a stronger will to achieve emerge as winners by overcoming all the challenges is the lesson conveyed by Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra which cannot be ignored.
