Soorarai Pottru is one major film that faced many hurdles in one form or the other and the latest being its direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video getting postponed from the original date of streaming which is Oct 30, 2020. Now a fresh date is announced and if all goes well, Soorarai Pottru is going to hit the digital screens on November 12, 2020, as a Diwali release.
Soorarai Pottru or Aakasam Nee Haddura in Telugu is a Suriya starrer based on the true events from the life of Captain G.R.Gopinath who is the founder of the low-cost airliner Air Deccan in 2003 which was later merged with Kingfisher Airlines in 2007. He is also the author of a book titled Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey.
Soorarai Pottru is bankrolled by Suriya himself with Guneet Monga and directed by Sudha Kongara who recently directed the short film Ilamai Idho Idho in the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. She became popular with her maiden venture Saala Khaddoos with Madhavan at the helm and the same was remade into Telugu as Guru starring Venkatesh Daggubati.
Apart from evolving the story, Sudha Kongara has written the screenplay for Soorarai Pottru along with Shalini Ushadevi, Aalif Surti, and Ganesha. The music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar whose background score and songs have already created buzz among music lovers.
The trailer of Soorarai Pottru, The Rebel with an idea which was released today is very compact with a lot of drama, sentiment, love, and action embedded by outstanding background music. Suriya who is seen as Nedumaaran Rajangam (Maaran) is supported by Aparna Balamurali as Bommi and versatile actress Urvashi along with Mohan Babu as M.Bhaktavatsalam Naidu and Paresh Rawal appearing in pivotal characters.
Soorarai Pottru is surrounded by high expectations as this is the major release of a leading hero like Suriya who holds a lot of sway over the whole of South India. Despite several challenges and many postponements, this film is poised to dismiss aberrations that OTT platforms have become a dumping ground for films with substandard content as some recent big releases on OTT platforms have failed to impress the audience.
It remains to be seen how Soorarai Pottru is going to fare and allay all those apprehensions about OTT platforms to create new precedence on digital arena.
