The motion poster of R. Balki’s upcoming film Chup : Revenge of the Artist was unveiled on the anniversary of legendary filmmaker, Late Guru Dutt by Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar on Sunday. The filmmaker had announced the project in August and is well-known for films Cheeni Kum, Paa, Ki & Ka and Padman.
R. Balki’s debut in a new genre
The movie is R Balki’s debut in psychological thriller genre and is an ode to the maverick filmmaker Guru Dutt who directed and produced all time gems like Pyasa, the iconic Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam, romantic classic Kaagaz Ke Phool and Chaudhvin Ka Chand.
R Balki stated that Chup is an ode to the sensitive artiste, and Guru Dutt is right on top of that list. It is reported that the film is also based on few instances of Balki’s own life experience. The director said that the story for the movie was on his mind for quite some time and he is glad that it is finally written and the filming is almost completed.
Starring and Production
The movie is co-produced by Hope Productions and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Balki, Raja Sen and Rishi Virmani while the music is composed by Amit Trivedi. Vishal Sinha is credited as the Director of Photography for Chup.
Chup stars Sunny Deol, South Indian actor Dulquer Salmaan, Pooja Bhatt who is back on the big screen and Shreya Dhanwanthary who got her break with The Family Man and later gained widespread critical acclaim through the successful web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.
There is no official date yet for the release of the film but it is expected to be released next year as we await further details.
