The Most Unhinged Action-Comedy of 2025: Why You Need to Stream “Killing Mary Sue”

Every so often, a film arrives that is so wonderfully bizarre and audacious that it demands to be shared. The 2025 release Killing Mary Sue is exactly that kind of movie. If you are hunting for an action-comedy that manages to be explosive, genuinely funny, and entirely original, you shouldn’t overlook this gem streaming on Tubi and YouTube.

A Premise Steeped in Absurdity

The brilliance of Killing Mary Sue begins with its cheeky setup. The film centers on the rivalry between two politicians, cleverly named Weiner and Koch. It’s a juvenile laugh, but it perfectly sets the tone for the chaos to follow.

Our protagonist, Mary Sue (played by Sierra McCormick as an adult), is a literal “Mary Sue”—a character trope often criticized for being impossibly capable. In this film, the title is ironic. While she possesses near-invincible combat skills, she is also a self-destructive trainwreck who spends her time spiraling into drug-fueled binges and public drama, much to the horror of her stepfather, a corrupt politician named Bradley Weiner.

When Assassins Meet Apathy

The plot kicks off when Bradley, desperate to clean up his image and rid himself of his embarrassing stepdaughter, hires hitmen to permanently silence her. The comedy peaks when Mary Sue, entirely oblivious to their intentions, mistakes the first professional killer for a male prostitute. When she finds him underwhelming, she delivers a single, lethal punch.

As Bradley and his partner, Wes, desperately call in more muscle—including help from their associate Knox—the situation spirals out of control. Wave after wave of ruthless mercenaries are dispatched not by a tactical genius, but by a young woman who is mostly just annoyed that these men are interrupting her video games and nap time.

Why It Works

What makes Killing Mary Sue a blast to watch is its total lack of self-seriousness. It is a blood-soaked spectacle, yet it maintains a sardonic wit throughout. Mary Sue is a monster, but she’s the kind of character you can’t help but root for—simply because she is so bored by the carnage she causes.

Furthermore, the character of Bradley serves as the perfect antagonist. His incompetence is his defining trait; his inability to offer genuine affection to his stepdaughter is the catalyst for her detachment and, ultimately, the reason his life falls apart. If he had just been a decent human being, he wouldn’t have had to deal with the mountain of bodies piling up on his doorstep.

A Must-Watch Action Romp

While the body count might not rival the John Wick franchise, the sheer comedic timing of the violence is unparalleled. The characters around Mary Sue treat the situation with a straight face, never fully realizing that their own machinations are the only reason they are in danger.

If you appreciate a film that doesn’t care about playing by the rules, Killing Mary Sue is your next obsession. It is a riotous, R-rated ride that proves sometimes the most dangerous person in the room is the one who couldn’t care less.

Killing Mary Sue is available for free on YouTube.
