KickFlip, a fresh boy group under JYP Entertainment, showcased immense confidence in their forthcoming album on Monday, which they describe as encapsulating the rebellious spirit of schoolboys.
During a media showcase in Seoul for their second EP, “Kick Out, Flip Now!”, member Donghyeon stated, “We aimed to create an album that truly reflects KickFlip’s identity, like a stamp.”
He added that all members participated in the songwriting and composition, believing it would allow them to communicate their message more effectively to their fans.
Donghyeon also encouraged fans to anticipate the group’s “explosive energy” this summer, which he promised would shine during their live performances of the album’s tracks.
The seven-member ensemble—Kyehoon, Amaru, Donghwa, Juwang, Minje, Keiju, and Donghyeon—made a significant debut in January with their first EP, “Flip it, Kick it!”, which sold over 270,000 copies in its opening week, according to Hanteo Chart, a local album sales tracker.
The group credited their success to their fans, with Donghwa stating, “At that time, we discussed how we should repay our fans’ support with even better performances and continue to move forward.”
Leader Kyehoon looked back on their journey, feeling reassured in his decision. “It confirmed for me that I was right to not give up on this path,” he reflected.
“Kick Out, Flip Now!” embodies the group’s daring ambition to “kick away the mold and flip the game.” This album comprises seven tracks, including the lead single “Freeze,” along with “Jekkija,” “Electricity,” and “Complicated!!”
“Freeze” is a dynamic pop-punk dance track centered around a ’90s-style guitar riff. Its lyrics convey a playful sentiment: “Let’s pause all the school nagging for a moment and live our way—freely, just for today.”
Donghyeon, the youngest member, was involved in the composition, while Kyehoon, Donghwa, and Minje contributed to the lyrics.
When asked how KickFlip distinguishes itself from other boy groups with similar schoolboy themes, Kyehoon responded, “Our appeal lies in our unexpected playfulness and spontaneous energy.”
Minje chimed in with a laugh, “We’ve actually revealed some unreleased content to fans without them realizing it. But since we’re always joking, they often didn’t believe us, even when we were telling the truth.”
In August, KickFlip is set to perform back-to-back at two major music festivals—Lollapalooza Chicago and Summer Sonic Bangkok 2025.
Kyehoon expressed enthusiasm, saying, “There are so many amazing artists at Lollapalooza, so we are pushing ourselves harder to meet that standard. Our aim is to reach more fans.”
Donghyeon echoed this excitement, noting, “It’s a tremendous honor to be performing at such prestigious festivals as Lollapalooza and Summer Sonic. We’re giving it our all and preparing with a lot of energy.”
