A New Alter Ego Arrives

IVE has dropped the track “Looks Can Kill” ahead of the extended play that shares its name. The song comes paired with a fresh persona for the six members: after portraying Cupid and a magical girl in previous concepts, they now embody a “Girl Hero.” According to Star Ship Entertainment, this figure already exudes victory the moment she steps into a room, turning the act of attraction into a narrative the group controls. The agency frames the single as a spin‑off of the ongoing “Girl Fantasy” storyline, emphasizing that the superhero angle amplifies IVE’s long‑standing theme of self‑confidence rather than replacing it.

Visual Storytelling Meets Superhero Cinema

The accompanying music video leans heavily on the grammar of superhero films. An Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz and Leeseo appear in colour‑coded suits that signal distinct powers, yet the camera frequently pulls back to reveal them as performers hired to play those roles. This layered approach illustrates a transition from IVE merely acting the part to the members truly inhabiting the hero identity. On Star Ship’s YouTube channel the clip gathered roughly 2.2 million views within five hours of its debut, underscoring strong immediate interest from fans and casual viewers alike.

Sound Design and Production Credits

Musically, “Looks Can Kill” is built as an electronic dance‑pop track arranged in layers. It opens with a synth‑pad foundation, over which a heavy, gritty bassline, driving percussion and dense electronic textures are stacked. The bridge shifts the mood before a final chorus delivers the payoff, and the total runtime sits at three minutes and fifteen seconds. Lyrically, Rei co‑wrote the verses alongside Gaeko of Dynamic Duo, Seo Ji‑eum, Lil Cherry and Rick Bridges, sharing the rap‑craft credit with Bridges. The composition is credited to Charles Roberts Nelsen, BAVA, Ashley Fulton, Jason Hahs and MLITE, with Inverness and BAVA handling the arrangement.

What Sets This Release Apart?

Although the superhero motif feels novel, the core message remains rooted in IVE’s established ethos of self‑assurance. Star Ship’s notes describe the track as an intensification of that confidence, presenting the cape‑like concept as a new frame for a familiar thesis. The song arrives as the group’s third major offering this year, following the REVIVE+ album and the LUCID DREAM EP. Because the rest of the forthcoming EP is still unreleased, listeners cannot yet judge whether the full record mirrors the single’s sonic direction or merely adopts its aesthetic.

Availability and Timeline

“Looks Can Kill” premiered worldwide on streaming services—including Melon in Korea, Spotify and Apple Music—through Kakao Entertainment’s distribution network. The pre‑release went live on October 19 at 6 p.m. KST, a date announced by Star Ship on September 27 alongside the broader comeback schedule. The full EP bearing the same title will follow on October 26, arriving eight months after REVIVE+ (February) and five months after LUCID DREAM (May).
