Sony Pictures has officially locked down one of the most coveted intellectual properties currently making waves in Hollywood. The studio has triumphed in a high-stakes, competitive bidding war to secure the rights to Hollow, a dark, provocative, and genre-bending take on the legendary The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The film will feature Sydney Sweeney in the lead role, with the visionary Lindsey Anderson Beer signed on to write, direct, and produce.

From Page to Screen: A Literary Sensation

The project is rooted in an upcoming debut novel by Beer, set to hit bookshelves in the autumn of 2027 through a major publishing deal with Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Although the book has yet to reach readers, it has already achieved status as an international literary phenomenon. Reports indicate that global translation rights have been sold under record-breaking terms, positioning it as one of the most anticipated debut releases in years.

A Fresh Perspective on a Gothic Icon

Rather than relying on the traditional beats of the Washington Irving classic, Hollow serves as a radical departure. The narrative pivots away from the familiar male-centric perspective, instead firmly centering on Katrina Van Tassel. In this reimagining, Katrina is no longer a peripheral romantic object or a prize to be won by contending suitors. Instead, she is the engine behind a complex, dangerous, and supernatural mystery.

The story is designed to blend deep psychological suspense with a gothic aesthetic and elements of an erotic thriller. By reframing the narrative, the production aims to transform a centuries-old ghost story into a high-concept, modern exploration of obsession and dark folklore.

A Powerhouse Production Team

The film is being developed under the Lab Brew banner by Lindsey Anderson Beer, with support from executive producers Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken. Adding further industry muscle, the project will be produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, alongside Sydney Sweeney’s own production house, Honey Trap.

Casting the Iconic Roles

With the centerpiece of the film established, Sony has shifted its focus to filling out the remainder of the cast. The roles of Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones have become some of the most sought-after vacancies in the industry, as the film looks to establish a compelling and intense trio at the heart of its narrative.

Continuing Success Stories

For Sydney Sweeney, this partnership with Sony marks a continuation of a highly successful streak. Her previous collaboration with the studio on the romantic comedy Anyone but You proved to be a massive commercial triumph. Meanwhile, Lindsey Anderson Beer brings a proven track record of genre success, having helmed the horror hit Pet Sematary: Bloodlines and written the Netflix favorite Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

As Hollow moves into its next phase of development, the industry is watching closely. By blending deep-seated psychological tension with the atmosphere of a classic supernatural tale, Sony appears to be positioning this project as a future cornerstone of their genre slate.
