A riveting attack on dangerous world of human trafficking
Human trafficking has reached dangerous proportions with one child missing for every minute in India. Particularly child abuse and child trafficking are growing at an alarming rate as poor economic status and illiteracy force many underprivileged children to fall prey to this menace. Flesh an original Eros Now series is a story based on widespread tentacles of this mafia which ruined many lives and highlights the relentless efforts of police and other agencies to end this dirty business.
Storyline
ACP Radha Nautiyal (Swara Bhasker) of Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) kick starts her drive against human trafficking with a raid on a hotel nabbing the gang for trafficking of girls in an undercover operation after a fierce gunfight.
Shekar Gupta (Yudhishter Urs) and Reba (Vidya Malvade) after a heated argument get together along with their daughter Zoya Gupta (Mahima Makwana) attend a wedding from where Zoya goes missing.
Notwithstanding the suspension, Radha carries her mission against human trafficking to rescue Zoya from the evil clutches of businessman Shivo (Uday Tikekar) the kingpin in Kolkata and his protégés Taj (Akshay Oberoi) and Niketan (Sayandeep Sengupta) who are the key people behind this trafficking racket.
Another subplot runs parallel to the story of Zoya’s abduction centered on child trafficking where children are kept under captivity so that they can be dispensed off by selling. After a series of incidents, police raids this place with the help of an NGO and set the children free but not before the siblings Rajji and Rajat get separated. These both construe a significant link at the end which is very crucial for the entire story of Flesh.
Radha has to pass through many tests to reach Zoya along with her colleague Naman (Siddhant Behl). It gets more complex due to several bitter facts emerging in course of crackdown by Radha. How she reaches her target amidst many challenges and life-threatening situations is what Flesh is all about.

Performances of Actors
Swara Bhasker’s hard work is evident in every scene. Particularly those two chase scenes stand as testimony to her endurance levels. She is perfect in the role of Radha and it doesn’t look like she is doing the role of a cop for the first time. Her body language, her command on character and the inimitable swag she shows are a treat to watch. Good to watch her in some meaningful role after a long time and no doubt Radha will get etched in her memory for a long time.
Akshay Oberoi is one actor who fits into any character and transforms himself into the skin of the character quite easily. In a completely new avatar of Taj, an animal to the core who always wants it to be rough, Oberoi has done total justice to the role.
All other actors Yudhishter, Vidya, Mahima, Siddhant, and Sayandeep have come out with exemplary performances including all the child artistes who are amazing and whoever has played the roles of Rajji and Rajat, they need special mention for their top-class performance and their track is an additional attraction to the Flesh.
Direction & Technical Aspects
Leaving aside comparisons with some of the films based on similar subjects, the story by Sidharth Anand and Sagar Pandya highlights the most volatile issue of human trafficking in a very heart touching manner. The screenplay provided by Pooja Ladha Surti and the twist, in the end, demonstrates her caliber once again. The revenge story of Sardar Chunni Singh’s wife is mind-blowing and the way she tracks down the murderer of her husband was well presented.
Director Danish Aslam has done a great job in depicting one of the most dreaded evils in its true light albeit with an orgy of blood, gore, and savageness. The atrocities, the macabre unleashed by maniacs against hapless children and young women and the dark secrets behind this evil are brilliantly captured by Aslam in an authentic manner giving the whole series a topical look.
There are some loose ends which should have been tightened to ensure more compactness to the series. The characters Pearl (Natasha Stankovic), Niketan and BB made those loose ends visible with lack of depth in their characterization. Their characters should have been handled in a more appropriate manner to add more strength to the story.
Though the climax was executed well, the reason behind revenge angle is off target and diluted the main concept of human trafficking on which the series was conceived giving it a tinge of an ordinary revenge drama.
Music of Manas Chaturvedi and Shikar Chaturvedi befits the narrative and the title music is quite rhythmic and stays in ears for a longer time even after completing the final episode. This speaks about the quality of music offered.
The Cinematography by Anshuman Mahaley is clean and focused with high quality chase scenes and night scenes which prove his mettle.
Verdict & Rating
A sound premise, a gripping narrative and excellent performance by Swara Bhasker made this a watchable series and it raises many questions on human trafficking and the burgeoning flesh trade which stifles the lives of many young girls and children. Humans for sale should be stopped and Flesh is a good attempt in exposing this growing hazard across the world.
