Red, White & Royal Wedding: Casting, Plot, and Production Updates Revealed

The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved LGBTQ+ rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue is officially underway — and fans are buzzing with excitement. Now titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, the upcoming film continues the groundbreaking love story between First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz and British royal Prince Henry. With casting confirmations, a new director, and cowriting duties from the original creators, here’s everything we know so far about this cinematic milestone.

Set to reprise their roles are fan favorites Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Henry. Since their breakout performances in the 2023 hit, both stars have skyrocketed in popularity. Perez has made waves in projects like Minx and The Kissing Booth 2, while Galitzine has taken on major roles in The Idea of You, Mary & George, and the upcoming Masters of the Universe. Their reunion in Red, White & Royal Wedding marks one of the most eagerly awaited comebacks in queer cinema.

In a major creative shift, acclaimed director Jamie Babbit (But I’m a Cheerleader, A League of Their Own reboot, Only Murders in the Building) will helm the sequel. She takes over from Matthew López, who directed the original film and is now pivoting to co-write the screenplay alongside Casey McQuiston, author of the bestselling 2019 novel on which the franchise is based. Their collaboration promises to deliver an authentic, heartfelt continuation of Alex and Henry’s journey — now stepping into the spotlight of a royal wedding.

The title Red, White & Royal Wedding was confirmed in April 2024, signaling a shift from political romance to full-blown nuptial drama. Though the original novel remains a standalone, the sequel will break new ground, creating original content that expands the couple’s universe.

Production officially kicked off in January 2026, as revealed by Perez and Galitzine in a surprise social media video that sent fans into a frenzy. As of now, no official release date has been announced, but with filming underway, a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere on Prime Video seems likely.

The original film remains a streaming favorite on Amazon Prime, praised for its heartfelt storytelling, inclusive representation, and charming performances. With Red, White & Royal Wedding, the studio aims to build on that success, offering a fresh yet faithful chapter in this modern love story.
