Joint families are diminishing and these are the days of nuclear families where there is little scope for family bonding and relationships. Potluck, streaming on SonyLiv digital channel is a noble effort to throw some light on the brouhaha and camaraderie that prevails in joint families that come together to share, enjoy and spend a time that remains memorable in the hearts of every family member.
Story
Govind Shastri (Jatin Sial) plans a gettogether of his family comprising of sons Vikrant (Cyrus Shahukar), Dhruv (Harman Singha), daughter Prerna (Shikha Talsania), and daughter-in-laws Akansha (Ira Dubey), Nidhi (Saloni Khanna) along with their children.
Govind and Pramila (Kitu Gidwani), the mother who had minor ‘saas-bahu’ differences are very much keen on getting their family back together despite the busy work and family lives of their children. She even try to prove a point or two to her sons too who feel that she was ‘overbearing’ during these sessions.
The idea is to have Potluck luncheons and dinners where all can come together and enjoy themselves to their heart’s content ushering in the much needed delight and relief in everyone’s life who takes a day out to spend some quality time with parents and siblings.
After all, it’s the family that comes before everything and it matters the most than anything else. Isn’t it?
How do all these go about their Potluck sessions much to the happiness of Govind Shastri who devise various ways to bring them together every week is what the 8-episode series is about.
Performances
The ensemble star cast made this series highly watchable. Jatin Sial and Kitu Gidwani look so sweet particularly in that mongoose and snake outfits on the occasion of their anniversary.
Equally enchanting are the remaining actors, Cyrus, Harman, Ira, Saloni, Shikha, and those cute-looking children ace through their characters effortlessly making a long-lasting impact that was quite indescribable.
Behind the scenes
The writers Gaurav Lulla, Bharat Misra, and Ashwin Lakshmi Narayan have done a great job to present the nuances of joint families in perfect shape.
The high point is the identifiability the series possess which was reflected all through the series and director Rajshree Ojha succeeded in finding the right pulse that appeals to all family audiences.
The cinematography by Dhirendra Shukla fits the bill whereas the song ‘It’s All Good’ rendered by Amit Mishra-Kamakshi Rai and composed by Sachin-Sukhamrit was quite peppy and uplifts the spirits.
Final Verdict
The positive vibes around the series Potluck was the redeeming feature of the series based on endearing family life that is high on relationships.
Though the intermittent sub-tracks have acted as speed-breakers, Potluck offers many things to rejoice and root for during these times of negativity. It was a welcome change from the overdose of violence, hatred, and blood-soaked shows that are ruling the digital world right now.
