Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’ Smashes Trailer View Record – Full Details Inside

The buzz around the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has officially reached fever pitch. Lionsgate recently unveiled the teaser trailer, and within just 24 hours, it amassed an astonishing 116.2 million views worldwide, making it the most-watched trailer for any music biopic in history, according to data from WaveMetrix.

Fans across the globe are counting down the days until they can witness the life story of the King of Pop come to life on the big screen.

Jaafar Jackson Steps Into the Spotlight

Leading the film is Jaafar Jackson, nephew of Michael Jackson and son of Jermaine Jackson. Cast in January 2023, Jaafar will portray his legendary uncle from his early years in The Jackson 5 to his meteoric rise as a solo icon.

Upon landing the role, Jaafar shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter) by posting a photo of himself in a signature Michael Jackson pose, complete with fedora and loafers, captioning that he felt “humbled and honored” to tell his uncle’s story.

I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.

Growing up in the Jackson family, Jaafar witnessed musical greatness firsthand. In a 2019 interview, he revealed that the only time he saw Michael perform live was during the Jacksons’ 30th anniversary show in New York — a moment that inspired his own musical ambitions.

Star-Studded Cast & Creative Team

The film boasts an impressive ensemble:

  • Nia Long as Katherine Jackson
  • Coleman Domingo as Joe Jackson
  • Miles Teller as attorney John Branca
  • Kat Graham as Diana Ross
  • Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe
  • Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones
  • Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer), the screenplay is penned by John Logan (Gladiator, Skyfall). Production is led by Graham King, alongside John Branca and John McClain.

From Jackson 5 Beginnings to Global Domination

According to the official synopsis, Michael will explore the superstar’s journey beyond the music — from his discovery as lead singer of The Jackson 5, to the creative vision that propelled him into global superstardom. Expect recreations of landmark performances, including his record-breaking 1984 GRAMMY wins, the legendary moonwalk, and the groundbreaking Thriller music video.

Two-Film Rumors

Industry chatter suggests the possibility of splitting the project into two films due to its reported three-and-a-half-hour runtime. While Lionsgate hasn’t confirmed this, Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson hinted that fans might not have to wait long for a follow-up after the first film’s release.

Fan Reactions & Release Date

Social media exploded with excitement after the trailer dropped, with viewers praising Jaafar’s uncanny resemblance to his uncle and declaring they’ll be “seated” on opening day.

Michael is set to hit cinemas on April 24, 2026 — a date every Michael Jackson fan will have marked in their calendars.
