Jung Yoonha has opened up about the rigorous groundwork that shaped her performance as Kusanagi in the Disney+ thriller A Shop for Killers Season 2. The actress revealed that juggling three languages, mastering complex firearm choreography, and diving deep into a psychologically fragmented persona made the role both demanding and profoundly rewarding.

Casting and a Whirlwind Schedule

Barely two to three weeks after securing the part, Jung Yoonha stepped onto the set while still fulfilling theatre commitments. This compressed timeline forced her to absorb the script at an accelerated pace, yet it also sparked an intense exploration of Kusanagi’s multilayered identity. The actress noted that the urgency of the schedule pushed her to uncover how the character shifts her expression depending on the language she speaks.

Crafting Language‑Specific Personas

To differentiate Kusanagi’s voice across Korean, English, and Japanese, Jung Yoonha devised distinct linguistic attitudes:

  • English: She adopted an elegant, formal diction that conveyed poise and strategic calculation.
  • Japanese: A more masculine, mercenary tone emerged, underscoring the character’s ruthless edge when navigating underworld dealings.
  • Korean: A businesslike, direct manner highlighted Kusanagi’s pragmatic side in corporate‑styled confrontations.

These deliberate choices illustrated the outsider status of Kusanagi, a figure torn between conflicting ambitions and an ever‑present sense of not fully belonging.

Psychological Nuance and Physical Training

Beyond dialogue, Jung Yoonha layered the performance with subtle physical cues. She employed restrained hand gestures and deliberately disrupted speech rhythms to hint at the character’s inner turbulence. To embody Kusanagi’s reputation as a “chess grandmaster” who prioritizes results over feelings, the actress studied high‑level combat drills, ensuring that each firearm sequence felt authentic yet fluid.

The combination of precise weapon handling and micro‑expressions created an unsettling, unpredictable presence—an essential trait for a sociopath who masks deep‑seated inferiority with fierce ambition.

On‑Set Camaraderie

Jung Yoonha praised her co‑stars Kim Hyejun and Lee Dongwook for their steadfast support and commanding screen presence. Their professionalism allowed her to slip naturally into the established narrative, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that eased the pressure of portraying such a complex antagonist. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to grow alongside seasoned actors whose contributions enriched the overall storytelling.

Reflections on the Character’s Arc

Discussing the finale, Jung Yoonha described how portraying the collapse of Kusanagi’s tightly controlled desires unveiled a vulnerable, flawed core. The moment of emotional surrender left the character with a sense of emptiness and futility, underscoring the tragic cost of suppressing one’s true self. For the actress, this journey served as a significant learning experience, pushing her to expand her emotional range and technical skill set.

Looking Ahead

In closing, Jung Yoonha thanked viewers for following her intense performance and promised continued growth through diverse, challenging roles. She invited audiences to stay tuned for future projects where she hopes to explore new facets of her craft.

The eight‑episode season of A Shop for Killers Season 2 is now streaming exclusively on Disney+ and on JioHotstar in India.
