A fantasy tale with a touch of reality

Ammoru Thalli (Mookuthi Amman) is another major OTT release after skipping the theatrical release due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This fantasy-filled film with a realistic touch, streaming now on Disney+Hotstar depicts some incidents that are closer to real-life besides highlighting some evils that are prevailing in the name of traditions and practices in the society.

A dream of a common man Ramaswamy (R.J.Balaji) comes true when his desire of getting rich without any problems gets fulfilled by his family deity Ammoru Thalli (Nayanthara). The goddess decides to stay with Ramaswamy and his family members’ expressing the desire of developing her temple to attract more devotees and selecting none other than Ramaswamy to complete her task.

The evil eye of god man Bagavathi Baba (Ajay Ghosh) who had his eyes on the 11000 acres of land which he wanted to grab in the name of God invites the wrath of Ammoru Thalli who teaches the Baba a lesson through Ramaswamy.

Nayanthara and Urvashi are the two central pillars of this film which effectively conveyed the message of caution to all those who lose everything due to blind faith and to stay away from the so-called fake godmen who tend to exploit gullible people to fulfill their selfish desires.

R J Balaji who also co-directed with N.J. Saravanan and acted in the significant role of an honest disciple Ramaswamy who believes in God and carries the fight against the myths surrounding the blind faith. Though he went overboard in some scenes, his overall performance deserves appreciation particularly those expressions are amazing.

Ajay Ghosh is another actor who can elevate any character and his performance makes a greater impact on the film.

The song rendered by the popular veteran singer L.R.Eswari is an added attraction of this film while the music by Girish stands apart.

The cinematography of Dinesh Krishnan makes the whole viewing experience a delightful one that enhanced the depth of the narrative.

Vasu, Jyothi Varma, R.Chandrika, and R.C.M.Raju who lent their voices to R.J.Balaji, Nayanthara, Urvashi, and Bhagavathi Baba respectively need special mention as they provided the much-needed nativity touch.

Ammoru Thalli is a well-made film though with a predictable plot but the narrative and presence of Nayan and Urvashi make it a thorough entertainer which cannot be missed.
