Jisoo and Zayn Malik Drop New Collaboration “Eyes Closed” — A Long-Awaited Duet That Fails to Shine

K-pop sensation Jisoo and former One Direction member Zayn Malik have finally unveiled their highly anticipated collaboration, Eyes Closed, released globally on October 10. The song, which Jisoo previewed earlier this month, marks her first solo release since her February mini-album Amortage. Music fans worldwide had been eager to hear what these two powerhouse artists would create together—and now the wait is over.

Eyes Closed blends tender pop melodies with soulful vocals, exploring themes of love, vulnerability, and the emotional baggage that relationships carry. The track follows two people who attempt to love freely while escaping the weight of their pasts. While lyrically introspective, the song’s execution feels subdued, with both artists delivering gentle but restrained performances that may leave listeners wishing for a stronger emotional punch.

The release comes with an ambitious sci-fi-inspired music video, depicting Jisoo and Zayn adrift in a futuristic spaceship. The cinematic visuals emphasize isolation and connection amid the vastness of space—a creative contrast to the song’s intimate message.

Zayn had previously hinted at new material “with another cool collaborator,” fueling fan speculation about a partnership with Jisoo. Their eventual confirmation drove excitement across social media, particularly after Zayn was spotted attending BLACKPINK’s New York concert with his daughter in July.

Jisoo’s Amortage received glowing reviews earlier this year, with critics praising her subtle confidence and melodic charm. In contrast, Eyes Closed doesn’t quite achieve the same spark. Despite the impressive pairing, the mid-tempo track feels formulaic—its production predictable and its rhythm lacking the energy one might expect from such a high-profile duo.

While the vocal chemistry between Jisoo and Zayn is evident, Eyes Closed seems crafted for playlist radio rather than artistic innovation. Whether it becomes a viral hit or quickly fades from memory remains to be seen, but for now, this much-hyped duet lands more softly than expected.
