New Documentary Honors Queen Elizabeth II on What Would Have Been Her 100th Birthday
An upcoming BBC documentary, Queen Elizabeth II: Her Story, Our Century, promises a heartfelt and comprehensive tribute to one of Britain’s most iconic figures. Set to air on BBC One and iPlayer, this hour-long special will commemorate what would have been the late monarch’s 100th birthday, reflecting on her extraordinary 70-year reign and the seismic changes that shaped modern Britain.
The film brings together an impressive roster of contributors, including naturalist Sir David Attenborough, former U.S. President Barack Obama, and members of the royal family such as Queen Camilla. Acclaimed actresses Dame Helen Mirren—renowned for her Oscar-winning portrayal of the Queen—and Dame Sheila Hancock will also share personal and poignant memories, offering viewers an intimate look into the woman behind the crown.
A Century of Change Through the Eyes of the Monarch
Directed through the lens of historical transformation, the documentary traces Queen Elizabeth II’s life from her birth in 1926 through pivotal moments like the Blitz, the post-war rebuild, the dawn of the digital age, and the 2012 London Olympics. Catherine Catton, Head of Factual Entertainment and Events at the BBC, emphasized the film’s deeper significance: “This documentary explores not just the life of Her Majesty, but how her steady presence helped shape the nation’s identity across a century of profound change.”
The Queen, who passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, remains the longest-reigning British monarch in history. Her unwavering sense of duty and adaptability allowed her to become a symbol of continuity in an ever-evolving world.
Fashion Legacy Celebrated with Royal Tribute Collections
Complementing the documentary, several legendary British brands are launching exclusive capsule collections in honor of the Queen’s centenary. Working alongside the Royal Collection Trust, Fulton, Burberry, Dents, and Corgi have crafted items that reflect her timeless style and personal tastes.
Fulton umbrellas, a royal favorite, now feature a new holly-green tartan trim—a nod to the Scottish Highlands and Balmoral Castle. Burberry has unveiled a luxurious lineup, including a Balmoral-themed silk scarf, a gold-plated corgi brooch, and a classic gabardine coat. These pieces will also feature in the upcoming exhibition Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style.
Opening April 10 at Buckingham Palace, this landmark showcase will display around 200 items—half of which have never been seen by the public—including her signature hats, vibrant ensembles, and practical riding wear.
