Param Sundari is a refreshing feel-good romantic drama that contrasts the superficiality of modern dating apps with the timeless essence of genuine love. Directed by Tushar Jalota, the film emphasizes that true chemistry cannot be quantified by algorithms, capturing heartfelt moments that resonate with audiences. It weaves a narrative of a North-meets-South romance facilitated by an app, yet stands out due to its engaging performances, warm screenplay, and emotionally resonant soundtrack. The film invites viewers to experience authentic emotions in a world dominated by technology, showcasing a magical blend of comfort and contemplation.

Story

The movie centers around Param (portrayed by Sidharth Malhotra), a suave businessman from Delhi who is well-versed in technology and is dedicated to developing an application that identifies your “soul mate.” A firm believer in analytics and compatibility metrics, he approaches love scientifically.

However, when his father (played by Sanjay Kapoor) expresses frustration over Param’s ambitious ideas and constant presentations, he challenges him to find a soulmate through his own application within a month, turning the challenge into a reality. Enter Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a grounded and spirited Malayali woman who defies categorization. Unfiltered and genuine in her nature, she shakes up everything Param thought he understood about love and meaningful connections.

What starts as a simple attraction evolves into a complex, emotionally charged journey. The subsequent narrative is heartwarming and compelling, showcasing a romance that feels organic rather than contrived. The interactions unfold gradually, filled with genuine moments and raw feelings that leave a deep impression.

Performances

Sidharth Malhotra delivers a performance as Param that is infused with humor, charm, and an unexpected emotional depth, balancing a suave exterior with a vulnerable side. However, it’s Janhvi Kapoor as Sundari who truly shines, showcasing her most impactful performance to date. Her portrayal is confident, grounded, and free from clichés—every aspect, from her accent to her physicality, feels authentic and deserving of accolades.

The film features outstanding support from the cast, with Sanjay Kapoor delivering a seasoned performance that provides comedic relief with impeccable timing and witty remarks. Manjot Singh adds an adorable charm, and Inayat Verma’s vibrant energy steals scenes throughout. Renji Panicker and Siddhartha Shankar contribute heart and authenticity to the narrative.

Behind the scenes

Visually, the movie juxtaposes the rapid, modern tech landscape of Delhi with the tranquil, stunning backwaters of Kerala, creating a feast for the eyes. The costumes are equally commendable—beautiful yet understated.

Music serves as the film’s heartbeat, with six dynamic tracks, each more intoxicating than the last. From the playful “Pardesiya” and the sultry “Bheegi Saree” to the spirited “Danger,” alongside the tender “Sunn Mere Yaar Ve” and “Chand Kagaz Ka,” the soundtrack is thoughtfully curated, with the title track “Sundari Ke Pyar Mein” already dominating the charts.

Final Verdict

The chemistry between Sundari and Param is electrifying. It commences with playful banter and moments of awkwardness but soon develops into something profound and significant—a romance that resonates with today’s generation, constantly searching for connection in a fast-paced, swipe-driven world. Their relationship’s evolution is portrayed with honesty, full of contradictions and undeniable attraction.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Param Sundari beautifully encapsulates the essence of falling in love. Whether you’re in a relationship, exploring the dating scene, or disillusioned with apps, this film resonates deeply. It’s a blend of honesty, emotion, humor, and heartful love, portraying a modern love story filled with its chaotic yet sweet moments. This film is a must-watch.
