Netflix Introduces The Future Is Ours, a Visionary Latin American Sci-Fi Series

Netflix has officially revealed its latest original production, The Future Is Ours, an ambitious limited series that brings together an exceptional Latin American cast and crew. The show marks the first-ever Spanish-language adaptation of celebrated American author Philip K. Dick’s novel The World Jones Made. Known for his thought-provoking explorations of identity, control, and perception, Dick’s works have inspired iconic films like Blade Runner and Minority Report.

The adaptation is led by Mateo Gil (Pedro Páramo, The Minions of Midas), who serves as showrunner and head writer. Direction will be shared among acclaimed filmmakers Vicente Amorim (Senna), Jesús Braceras (Barrabrava), and Daniel Rezende (The Son of A Thousand Men). The production is a collaboration between K&S Films (The Eternaut) and Electric Shepherd Productions, the official production arm of Philip K. Dick’s estate, founded by his daughter Isa Dick Hackett.

A Latin American Story Set in a Dystopian Future

Set in the year 2047, The Future Is Ours imagines a South America transformed by environmental collapse. Several nations unite under FedSur, a coalition enforcing drastic ecological laws to combat famine and violence. Amid this fragile new order, an enigmatic online prophet emerges, predicting events with astonishing accuracy.

Police officer Hugo Crussí tracks the source of these predictions to Jonás Flores, a young preacher whose subsequent capture only fuels his rise to power. As Jonás’ revolutionary message spreads across the continent, he becomes both a messiah and a tyrant. Pursued by the regime and haunted by his conscience, Crussí embarks on a perilous mission to stop the visionary before his prophesied destiny unfolds.

Cast and Creative Team

The series stars Enzo Vogrincic (Society of the Snow), Emiliano Zurita (No One Saw Us Leave), Delfina Chaves (Máxima), Marleyda Soto (One Hundred Years of Solitude), and Marco Antonio Caponi (Yosi, the Regretful Spy), among other prominent Latin American talents.

Cinematographers Adrián Teijido (I’m Still Here) and Luis Sansans (Narcos: México) bring their visual expertise, while Carlos Y. Jacques serves as production designer and Julián Romera leads the art direction. The writing team includes Laura Santullo, Camila Brugés Gómez, and Kyzza Terrazas, alongside Gil.

Netflix’s Vice President of Latin American Content, Francisco Ramos, emphasized that the series “reflects the region’s creative strength and its ability to tell universal stories in Spanish with exceptional quality.” Isa Dick Hackett added that working with Netflix and this talented team to reinterpret her father’s story for a new audience is “an honor and a milestone in Latin American television.”

Expanding the Legacy of Philip K. Dick

Since its founding in 2007, Electric Shepherd Productions has been dedicated to reimagining Philip K. Dick’s visionary worlds for global audiences, with previous successes like The Man in the High Castle and Electric Dreams. Partner K&S Films continues to strengthen its international reputation with acclaimed projects such as Relatos Salvajes, El Clan, and The Eternaut.

The Future Is Ours aims to redefine Latin American science fiction on a global scale—melding Philip K. Dick’s prophetic themes with the creativity and resilience of an entire region.
