Netflix has officially ignited anticipation for its upcoming fantasy-action epic, Agent from Above, by releasing an electrifying teaser and new character visuals. Scheduled for a global debut on April 2, the series promises a visceral journey into a modernized landscape of gods, demons, and human envoys.
A Modern Clash of Deities and Mortals
The newly released teaser images highlight a fascinating contrast between the show’s two leads. Wang Po-chieh portrays the “Third Crown Prince,” but this isn’t the traditional deity found in history books. Clad in a luxurious fur coat and sporting sunglasses while enjoys a lollipop, Wang’s portrayal radiates a sleek, arrogant energy against a crumbling, apocalyptic backdrop.
Opposing this divine swagger is Kai Ko’s Han Chieh, a reluctant spirit medium. Positioned within the industrial grit of the Dongfang Market, Han Chieh is seen wielding a blazing, fire-tipped spear. The imagery effectively establishes a world where ancient mythology collides with contemporary urban decay.
Divine Contracts and Explosive Combat
The teaser trailer dives deep into the show’s unique lore. In this universe, only a select few can forge soul-binding contracts with supernatural entities to become their earthly representatives. Han Chieh, falling from the sky into his destiny, is tasked by the mischievous Third Crown Prince to battle vengeful spirits.
The action is punctuated by high-concept weaponry: Han Chieh utilizes “milk cap” talismans that transform into golden flames and legendary spears. These sequences culminate in a high-stakes standoff against the Shen Lung Crown Prince (Kuo Tzu-chien). In a display of cool defiance, Han Chieh neutralizes his foe with a well-placed talisman before launching into a final, fiery assault.
Reimagining Taiwanese Folklore
Director Kuan Wei-chieh noted that the series draws heavy inspiration from the novel by Taiwanese author Teensy. A key focus was the physical manifestation of ritual weapons. “We wanted the power to feel earned,” Kuan explained, noting that Han Chieh must endure significant physical pain every time he channels divine energy through the milk caps.
Lead actor Kai Ko emphasized that the show breaks away from traditional temple aesthetics. He described the relationship between his character and Wang Po-chieh’s deity as less about worship and more about a “mentor-student” or “bickering brothers” dynamic. This fashion-forward, futuristic approach aims to make ancient folk beliefs accessible and exciting for a modern audience.
