Netflix is reportedly in the preliminary phases of creating a reboot of Land of the Lost, more than 50 years since its original premiere.

According to a “Deadline” article released on Tuesday, June 17, the streaming platform has entered into an agreement with Legendary Television with the aim of reintroducing the series for contemporary viewers. The article also revealed that Sid and Marty Krofft, the production duo behind the original show, will be involved in the revival. Additionally, Deanna Krofft Pope, Marty Krofft’s daughter and COO of their company, is set to serve as a producer for the new project.

Land of the Lost first aired on September 27, 1974, and concluded after three seasons on NBC, with its final episode airing on December 4, 1976. The show centers around Rick and his two children, Will and Holly, who find themselves navigating a prehistoric world filled with dinosaurs and various creatures after unwittingly passing through a portal. The primary antagonist of the series is a Tyrannosaurus rex that the family nicknames Grumpy. The trio also encounters the Sleestak, a threatening group of reptilian humanoids, and a species of primate-like beings called Pakuni. They even befriend a Pakuni named Cha-Ka.

The series has been rebooted twice since its original run: once as a television series in 1991 that lasted two seasons, and again in 2009 as a film featuring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, and Anna Friel.

Following the announcement of the Netflix reboot, many Reddit users expressed their thoughts in the comments section of a related post.

One enthusiastic commenter expressed, “Honestly, if the production quality matches that of ‘Lost in Space’ and it’s equally enjoyable, I’m all for this. Let’s remake all those classic shows—’Land of the Giants,’ ‘Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,’ and so on.”

Another user pointed out, “The series passed its 50th anniversary last year,” before questioning, “Is Hollywood really that stuck on original ideas these days?”

A third user chimed in with, “Wasn’t this already rebooted?” Despite reaching out for comments, “Deadline” indicated that they received no responses from the involved entities, and there was currently no writer attached to the revival.

So let’s wait and watch for further updates from Netflix.
