South Korean actor Kim Seon-ho is gearing up for the release of his latest Netflix drama Can This Love Be Translated?, and he has a special message for his Indian audience — they won’t be disappointed.

Known for his roles in global K-drama hits such as Good Manager, Start-Up, and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Seon-ho has become one of Korea’s most beloved stars. Speaking to PTI from Seoul, the actor expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support from Indian fans.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to know that people are waiting for my next project. Their curiosity and love make me proud, excited, and deeply happy,” Seon-ho shared. “We’ve poured everything into this drama and I truly believe viewers will enjoy it.”

The upcoming series, penned by the acclaimed Hong sisters — writers behind classics like You’re Beautiful, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, Hotel del Luna, and Alchemy of Souls — blends romance, travel, and cultural connections. The story follows multilingual interpreter Joo Ho-jin (played by Seon-ho) and global celebrity Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung) as they travel the world filming a dating reality show with Japanese actor Hiro (Sota Fukushi). As Ho-jin translates conversations between Mu-hee and Hiro, he finds himself unexpectedly entangled in matters of the heart.

Seon-ho is no stranger to viral fame. His dimpled smile from the slice-of-life drama When Life Gives You Tangerines became a social media sensation, sparking the “smile challenge” among fans worldwide. Recalling the moment, he admitted he never expected that scene — where his character reacts tenderly to seeing his fiancée (played by IU) in a wedding dress — to gain such global traction.

For his new drama, Seon-ho hopes fans latch onto moments featuring Go Youn-jung. He teased two scenes that could spark online buzz: one where she utters the word “aurora,” and another — seen in the trailer — where she playfully mimics a bobblehead cat.

The 39-year-old star’s career spans theatre and supporting roles in dramas like Two Cops and The Strongest Deliveryman, before his breakout in Start-Up in 2020. His characters often require specialized skills — from being a jack-of-all-trades in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha to portraying a linguist in Can This Love Be Translated?.

“Each role is an opportunity to live another life. I enjoy the challenges, whether it’s mastering a skill or embodying a completely different personality,” Seon-ho said. “Seeing fans connect with my work is what makes this journey truly fulfilling.”

Can This Love Be Translated? premieres Friday on Netflix, promising heartfelt storytelling, cultural nuances, and moments worth sharing.
