JioHotstar has officially unveiled its upcoming original drama Space Gen: Chandrayaan, an emotional retelling inspired by the real-life journey of India’s Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission. Created in collaboration with The Viral Fever (TVF), this marks the very first partnership between the popular streaming giant and the celebrated production house. The five-episode series, helmed by director Anant Singh, is set to launch exclusively on JioHotstar on January 23, 2026.
The show boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Nakuul Mehta, alongside Shriya Saran, Prakash Belawadi, Danish Sait, and Gopal Datt in key roles. While most space dramas focus heavily on technical details, Space Gen: Chandrayaan seeks to uncover the human side of this historic mission — the emotions, resilience, and determination of the scientists who stood behind it.
The Chandrayaan-2 mission, launched with immense national pride, came heartbreakingly close to success, reaching just 2.1 kilometres from the lunar surface before losing communication. This setback was felt deeply across the country. Yet, instead of portraying this moment as a failure, the series reframes it as the start of a renewed commitment to India’s space ambitions.
The recently released teaser offers a subtle but powerful glimpse into the tense final moments inside the mission control room — scientists waiting anxiously for a signal that never arrives. What follows is not despair, but a collective choice to persevere. By focusing on character-driven storytelling, the series honours both the mission and the people whose resolve kept the dream alive.
Director Anant Singh explained the vision behind the series:
“India’s Lunar Mission is a testament to ambition and resilience. We realised early on that the heart of this story lies in the individuals who shouldered its challenges. It’s about pride, faith, and the courage to rise above setbacks. Working alongside JioHotstar and TVF, we’re proud to bring this journey to audiences everywhere.”
Lead actor Nakuul Mehta echoed these sentiments, sharing his personal connection to the role:
“What struck me most was the authenticity of the script. It doesn’t just celebrate success — it honours the grit required to bounce back after disappointment. This was an emotional journey that stayed with me well beyond filming. We approached it with deep respect, knowing it belongs to the nation’s collective memory.”
Ultimately, Space Gen: Chandrayaan stands as a cinematic tribute to perseverance — spotlighting ordinary scientists who faced adversity, embraced humility, and found the strength to begin again. With its blend of heartfelt drama and historical significance, this series promises to be a must-watch event for audiences eager to witness one of India’s most defining scientific moments.
