A unique and intriguing thriller

MX Player is making sure that it stays ahead in the race by releasing back to back web series spreading great variety. Inadvertently, the success of this digital platform lies in its content which is quite distinct and different.

Another brand new crime thriller series is High that revolves around a mysterious drug that seems to help addicts come out of their struggles. However, it is more than what it appears to be, making it an interesting watch.

Storyline:

The story is about Shiv Mathur (Akshay Oberoi) who is struggling with his drug addiction. Under mysterious circumstances, he finds himself in a rehab where he is introduced to magic, a miracle drug.

With a group of people involved in the making of this drug and the drug’s availability in the open market, the aftermath is even more deadly than anyone could have predicted. As the popularity of this mysterious drug soar high in the market, it triggers a high-end chase for survival.

Performances

The web series has managed to gather around an impressive star cast including Ranvir Shorey as the menacing assassinator Lakda, along with Akshay Oberoi, Shweta Basu, Prakash Belwadi, and Nakul Bhalla. The actors shine bright in their respective roles and will keep you hooked till the very end of the nine-episode series.

Needless to add, Akshay Oberoi who was last seen as a human trafficker in the web series Flesh once again appears in a different and complicated character proving that his talent traverses all boundaries.

Behind the scenes

What makes the series interesting is the unique plot penned down by Nikhil Rao, Emil Thomas, and Nishant Goyal who have managed to make it an intriguing watch through deceit, betrayal, addiction, and a lot that promises more and fans will be looking forward to a second season with many expectations.

Director Nikhil Rao is successful in creating a dark and twisted environment throughout, the characters are either fighting for survival or giving in to their addiction with an aftermath that is even more dangerous than one could imagine.

The setting with dim lights and a gloomy ambience of the rehab makes the fate of these characters look even darker as it is.

Verdict & Rating

High is an interesting watch with a plot that is well laid and presented. While the present looks dark and gloomy, more bloodshed in the offing make the future of these characters hang in grave uncertainty. The first season finale ends with a twist reiterating the possibility of a second season.

All over, this newest web series is worth the time and attention. The series is an intriguing watch with a unique approach to the whole drug fiasco unleashing its darker and dangerous side.

Rating: 4/5
