Guntur Kaaram the latest Telugu flick released today starring Mahesh Babu, Sreeleela and directed by the most successful director Trivikram Srininas is receiving mixed reviews from the audience as well as from trade circles. The writer director Trivikram Srinivas who has got box office blockbusters with all the heroes he has worked with, Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018) with Jr NTR, Jalsa (2008) and Attarintiki Daredi (2013) with Pawan Kalyan, Julayi (2012) and Ala Vykunthapurramulo (2020) with Allu Arjun has tasted defeat at boxoffice with two earlier films of Mahesh Babu, Athadu (2005) and Khaleja (2010) though both have received excellent response on satellite channels and digital platforms. But they failed to make it big at the boxoffice.
So there were big expectations on Guntur Kaaram as the audience wanted something big and different from this combo. But unfortunately, this also seems to be a sitting duck with Hanuman directed by Prasanth Varma starring Teja Sajja is getting the rave reviews and standing tall among the two films released today on the eve of Sankranti, the biggest festival in both Telugu States.
Mahesh Babu lives up to his Super Star image in every film and in Guntur Kaaram too he has raised the bar with scintillating dances and impeccable comedy timing. Its an altogether a different Mahesh Babu in the film and this is the only saving grace in the otherwise stale and lacklustre story telling by Trivikram Srinivas. Trivikram who is known to weave tales around family feuds and human relations has once again adapted the same formula in Guntur Kaaram which is based on conflict between the estranged Son and Mother and whole story revolves around the same pattern that was repeated from his earlier films.
The audience who expect something different from the much sought after combo of Mahesh-Trivikram leave the theatres with disappointment as they don’t get the wow feeling in terms of narrative or screenplay which looks quite routine and devoid of any uniqueness except the monumental performance by Mahesh Babu who has put his blood, sweat and heart into this film
Guntur Kaaram may entertain all the fans of Mahesh Babu to the hilt, but from common audience and critics point of view, it was a routine fare without anything novel. This is mainly because of lack of Trivikram’s magic and spark during entire course of the film.
If Guntur Kaaram fares badly at box office as we all will come to know about the outcome in few days, it will be the third film of Mahesh-Trivikram combo that bites the dust at box office. If Guntur Kaaram fails at box office then we may not see the combo of Mahesh-Trivikram again for some years. If this happens, this duo will be treated as jinxed and no producer will come forward to make a film with this combo. Though this doesn’t taste so spicier, this is the bitter part of the whole story which may sound quite pessimistic but in reality the repetition of Mahesh-Trivikram combo in future hinges on the success of Guntur Karam at box office.
