Netflix is officially preparing to launch the next chapter of its most adrenaline-fueled franchise. Recent reports confirm that Extraction 3 has locked in its production timeline, with cameras set to roll in Australia from June 1 through October 9 of this year. This latest installment marks a significant milestone for the streaming giant’s action portfolio, bringing back the creative powerhouse duo responsible for the series’ global success.
The Return of Tyler Rake and Sam Hargrave
Sam Hargrave, whose visionary stunt-coordination background defined the high-octane aesthetic of the first two films, is returning to the director’s chair. Fans can also celebrate the return of Chris Hemsworth, who will once again portray the elite mercenary Tyler Rake.
The franchise has built a reputation for its relentless pacing and technical mastery. The original Extraction followed Rake’s perilous mission to rescue a crime lord’s son in Bangladesh, while Extraction 2 saw him survive a near-death experience to extract a family from a brutal Georgian prison. With the third film, the production team aims to elevate the stakes even further, promising the signature “oner” sequences and gritty combat that have become the series’ hallmarks.
A Look at Chris Hemsworth’s Expansive Slate
While Extraction 3 is a top priority, Hemsworth’s schedule remains one of the busiest in Hollywood. He was recently seen in the heist thriller Crime 101, directed by Bart Layton, playing the sophisticated jewel thief James Davis. That project featured a stellar ensemble, including Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan.
Looking ahead, the Australian actor is set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday. His diverse upcoming filmography also includes the submarine-based actioner Subversion, Paul King’s Disney feature Prince Charming, and the crime drama Kockroach. Furthermore, fans are eagerly anticipating his involvement in the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie, directed by Steven Caple Jr.
Director Sam Hargrave’s Growing Portfolio
Sam Hargrave is also diversifying his directorial efforts. Beyond the Extraction universe, he recently helmed episodes of the Apple TV+ series The Last Frontier, a survival drama starring Jason Clarke. Hargrave is also attached to Matchbox the Movie, a live-action adaptation inspired by the iconic toy cars, which is currently slated for an October 2026 release.
Australia: The New Hub for Global Action
By choosing Australia as its primary filming location, Extraction 3 joins a growing list of high-profile productions utilizing the region’s world-class facilities. Australia recently hosted the production of Extraction 2, as well as other major titles like Netflix’s War Machine, Prime Video’s The Bluff, and the latest reimagining of Anaconda.
As the June start date approaches, anticipation continues to build for what is expected to be Netflix’s most ambitious action sequel to date.
