Netflix’s beloved rom-com Emily in Paris has entered its fifth season, and this time, the story takes a stylish detour beyond the French capital. Created by Darren Star, the series follows the fashionable adventures of American expat Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins. While Paris remains part of the charm, Season 5 welcomes viewers to Rome and other iconic European hotspots, delivering a fresh twist, sharper dialogue, and more mature character arcs.

Story

This season, Emily finds herself spearheading Agence Grateau’s expansion into Rome. The team urgently needs to attract new clients, navigating the competitive world of luxury brands. Emily is enjoying a blossoming romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), but doubts about her relationship and life choices keep surfacing.

The plot weaves through romantic entanglements, personal crossroads, and ambitious business ventures, with many familiar faces making appearances in Italy. Viewers are treated to vibrant backdrops across Paris, Rome, and Venice, amplifying the show’s signature visual appeal. While some storylines lean into rom-com clichés, they’re delivered with enough charm to keep audiences engaged.

Performances

Lily Collins brings a more grounded and self-assured Emily to the screen, portraying a character who is learning to prioritize her goals over unnecessary drama. Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu’s Sylvie remains a compelling presence, juggling work dilemmas and personal challenges, including a romantic subplot with a younger man that adds intrigue. Ashley Park’s Mindy delivers both heartfelt moments and standout musical performances, further showcasing her talent.

On the downside, Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel is noticeably absent for much of the season, making only brief appearances. Franceschini’s Marcello, while visually appealing, lacks the depth to match Emily’s evolving storyline. Newcomers like Minnie Driver as the eccentric Princess Jane inject humor and flair, while Bryan Greenberg’s cameo offers a pleasant surprise.

Behind the Scenes

Season 5 benefits greatly from filming in authentic European settings, which elevate the visual storytelling. The costume design takes center stage, with Emily sporting a chic bob and a wardrobe that blends sophistication with daring fashion choices. Product placements are more overt, with brands like Fendi, Perrier, and L’Oréal appearing regularly. The improved dialogue and pacing help smooth over occasional predictable plot turns, keeping the viewing experience lively.

Final Verdict

Emily in Paris Season 5 delivers exactly what fans expect—romance, glamour, and escapism—with the added bonus of a new cultural backdrop. While certain arcs may feel familiar, the mix of vibrant locations, character growth, and stylish presentation ensures the series retains its guilty pleasure status. If you’re ready for a virtual trip through Europe filled with high fashion and heartfelt drama, this season is worth every binge-worthy minute.
