Streaming giant Apple TV has officially confirmed that its hit psychological drama Imperfect Women is coming back for a brand-new season. Following a successful inaugural run, the upcoming chapter promises to deliver even more suspense, moving its primary setting to the picturesque backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard.
Emmy Award-winning actress and producer Kerry Washington will step back into the spotlight to reprise her beloved role as Eleanor. Alongside her on-screen return, Washington will continue shaping the series behind the scenes as an executive producer, partnering once more with fellow Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss.
A Fresh Creative Direction and Expanding Horizons
For the sophomore run, series creator Annie Weisman is stepping up as co-showrunner, joined by industry veteran Justin Hillian, whose previous credits include acclaimed dramas like The Chi and Snowfall. Together, they are crafting an entirely original narrative arc that pushes the boundaries set in the first season.
Reflecting on the early success and upcoming renewal, Kerry Washington shared her enthusiasm with reporters. She noted how rewarding it was to see viewers connect so deeply with the complex journeys of the characters. Emphasizing Eleanor’s sharp intellect and the intricate, often turbulent situations she encounters, Washington expressed eagerness to dive into the next phase of development alongside her production company Simpson Street, alongside longtime collaborators at Apple and Love & Squalor Pictures.
Apple TV’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, echoed this excitement, praising the powerhouse performances delivered by Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, and Kate Mara during the first season. Cherniss highlighted that when the opportunity arose to focus on Washington’s standout character, greenlighting a second season was an easy decision. He credited Weisman and Hillian for developing a gripping continuation that will keep viewers guessing.
What to Expect in Season Two
Originally adapted from Araminta Hall’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Imperfect Women initially explored how a single, shocking crime fractured a lifelong bond shared among three women. As the story transitions into its second season, the plot shifts focus toward Eleanor.
Returning to her roots in the wealthy, historic African American community of Martha’s Vineyard, Eleanor expects a sense of familiarity. Instead, she discovers that beneath the pristine beaches and luxurious homes lie hidden scandals and buried secrets. These dark revelations threaten to dismantle everything she believed she understood about her history and relationships.
Behind the Scenes and Production Team
The psychological thriller is a collaborative production brought to life by 20th Television in partnership with Apple Studios. The creative heavy-lifting for season two rests securely in the hands of Weisman and Hillian, who handle writing, co-showrunning, and executive-producing duties.
Washington serves as executive producer alongside Pilar Savone for the Simpson Street banner. Meanwhile, Elisabeth Moss and Lindsey McManus—who originally secured the rights to the source material through their Love & Squalor Pictures banner—continue their executive producer roles, alongside the original author, Araminta Hall.
Fans of premium television and suspenseful storytelling can look forward to more updates regarding casting and premiere dates as production gets underway for the return of Imperfect Women on Apple TV.
