Prime Video has just made binge-watchers’ dreams come true by adding the complete first 12 seasons of Chicago P.D., one of television’s most acclaimed crime dramas, to its streaming lineup. With more than 200 episodes now available, subscribers can immerse themselves in the gritty, high-stakes world of Chicago’s police force from the very beginning.

The update arrived on January 1st, as part of a content refresh that also brought blockbuster films like Final Destination: Bloodlines and several titles from the Mission Impossible series to the platform. But for fans of intense storytelling and edge-of-your-seat drama, the biggest highlight is undoubtedly the arrival of Chicago P.D..

Created by legendary TV producer Dick Wolf, Chicago P.D. serves as the second installment in NBC’s popular One Chicago franchise, following the success of Chicago Fire in 2012. The series focuses on the Intelligence Unit of the Chicago Police Department’s 21st District, tackling the city’s toughest cases—ranging from drug cartels and organized crime networks to high-profile homicides. Known for its fast-paced plots and morally complex characters, the show offers a darker, more nuanced portrayal of policing than many other procedurals.

The franchise itself has been a ratings powerhouse for over a decade, with Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med consistently ranking among NBC’s most-watched scripted series. Part of Chicago P.D.’s enduring appeal lies in its willingness to explore the blurred lines between justice and morality, especially through the leadership style of Sergeant Hank Voight, whose “by any means necessary” approach often sparks debate among viewers.

Audience reception backs up the hype—Chicago P.D. holds an impressive 89% average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, a testament to its compelling mix of high-stakes crime-solving, character-driven storytelling, and emotional depth. The series balances episodic “case of the week” plots with ongoing personal and professional arcs, making it equally addictive for casual viewers and devoted fans.

Currently, Chicago P.D. is in the middle of its 13th season, which debuted in fall 2023. While the new season isn’t yet on Prime Video, viewers can watch fresh episodes on Peacock the day after they air on NBC. As of now, the first seven episodes of Season 13 are available there, with the show set to resume on January 7th and new installments dropping weekly.

For those ready to dive in—or revisit past seasons—Prime Video’s addition of all 12 completed seasons offers the perfect opportunity to catch up on every twist, turn, and emotional gut punch that has made Chicago P.D. a standout in the crime drama genre.
