In a bid to bring the origins of the Indian film industry to life on screen, Jr NTR is reported to take on the lead role in Made In India, a pan-Indian biopic inspired by Dadasaheb Phalke’s life and contributions. The project, announced in September 2023, is presented by the acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli and produced by Varun Gupta of Max Studios and SS Karthikeya of Showing Business.
This docufilm aims to honor the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’ by delving not only into the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, who directed 23 of India’s earliest films, but also into the history and evolution of Indian cinema—from its inception and initial flourishing to its eventual emergence as a major industry.
As reported in media, Jr NTR has reportedly listened to a comprehensive narration of the final script from Rajamouli, Karthikeya, and Varun Gupta, and has verbally given his approval to proceed.
Sources indicate that Jr NTR was taken aback by some lesser-known aspects of Dadasaheb Phalke’s life and the challenges he faced. The narrative reflects both Phalke’s personal journey and the rise of Indian cinema. There is a buzz that this film will offer Indian cinema audiences a fresh and unprecedented experience.
Following his collaborations with Prashanth Neel and Nelson Dilipkumar, Jr NTR is poised to shift from his typical action roles. Made In India, will allow him to embody a complex, historically significant character, a departure from his previous portrayals.
“This is not a high-energy role for me. It’s about telling a story that has profoundly shaped Indian culture. NTR Jr. finds this both a challenge and a great honor,” an insider revealed.
Made In India is a pan-Indian biopic focusing on Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema. Supported by SS Rajamouli, his son SS Karthikeya, and Varun Gupta, the film aims to chronicle the evolution of the Indian film industry. After hearing the detailed storyline, Jr NTR has committed to the project, which emphasizes authenticity and emotional depth.
While there has been no official announcement regarding the director or crew, the film is anticipated to be a notable departure for Jr NTR from commercial cinema, as it eschews action for a more grounded, content-driven character. It will be released in multiple languages across India, with further details about the cast and shooting schedule expected to be revealed soon.
Additionally, Jr NTR is gearing up for the release of War 2 during the Independence Day weekend. With Made In India on the horizon, the actor’s upcoming projects demonstrate a growing diversity, as he balances mass appeal films with impactful, legacy-driven narratives.
