The studio has provided no information about the sequel, and it appears that Diesel himself is uncertain about when production will begin, even though the film was initially anticipated for a 2026 release.
In his post, Diesel shared a photo alongside co-star Michelle Rodriguez. Although the caption has since been revised to convey general appreciation and love, remnants of its original message linger online. Diesel originally wrote, “Universal… Please tell the best fans in the world when the next movie is coming out. Please.” He accompanied the plea with hashtags, including #DomandLetty, #FuelFest, and the intriguing #LosBandoleros2.

The hashtag #LosBandoleros2 stands out, as Diesel hinted last month about potentially directing a “precursor” to Fast X: Part 2. This would be reminiscent of his earlier work directing a short film, Los Bandoleros, which accompanied the Blu-ray release of Fast & Furious 4 in 2009. That short film helped connect the storylines from earlier films to the events of a significant heist in the Dominican Republic. Although it’s unclear if Los Bandoleros 2 will proceed, Diesel mentioned that he had been “requested” to direct the new short, suggesting it might be released soon to appease fans awaiting the climax of the main series.
Fans of the franchise are understandably frustrated by the lack of updates. Numerous interviews and social media posts from various cast members have yielded little information, leaving audiences just as in the dark about Fast X: Part 2 as before.
The 2023 installment of the film was a commercial success, raking in $714 million globally. The explosive cliffhanger left viewers eager for a sequel; however, Universal seems to have missed an opportunity to capitalize on this momentum, delaying the originally scheduled April 4, 2025, release to 2026. Now, even that timeline appears to be in jeopardy. Moreover, updates on the upcoming spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Reyes, have been scant, complicating matters further.
In summary, it seems that there has been a significant communication breakdown regarding Fast X: Part 2. Trust in both the franchise and Universal is waning, which may adversely affect the film’s box office performance upon its eventual release. While fans will undoubtedly turn out to see how the saga concludes, it would have been far more reassuring had the studio been forthcoming with information from the outset.
