Spiritless story spoils the canine’s bold effort

There are many films in the past depicting the loyal canines pulling out all the tricks and winning the hearts. Nobody forgets the Jackie Shroff starrer Teri Meherbaniyan in which Brownie, not only steals the show but it stayed in the hearts of many pet lovers. In contrast, Danny which is streaming on Zee5 fails to come anyway near those canine centered films with main culprit being the run-of-the-mill story.

The title Danny and the beginning of film hold some promise but it fizzles out due to the hackneyed storyline and poor execution of the story.

The series of murders and the way they are shown on screen reminds of watching a docudrama without any intensity or emotional quotient required in a story which runs around serial murders of women under mysterious circumstances but unfortunately, the sloppy writing and inadequate screenplay fail to sustain the interest of the viewer.

The drug angle is also not exploited fully and a halfhearted attempt to deal with this menace leaves the viewer fuming and confused. Moreover, the connection between serial murders and motto of the murderer was not established properly, maybe the writer-director himself could have got confused about the motto so the result is a hotchpotch of mystery getting solved without any clue or justification.

The saving grace is the presence of Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who manages to put up a brave effort despite awful characterization which should have been dealt in a better way to extract more from the highly talented lead actor. Other artistes fail miserably due to less space and unimportant characters. The intervening portions of villagers worshipping Varalaxmi as a savior for all their problems and those forced comedy scenes look ridiculous.

Santhanamoorthy’s script or direction doesn’t create any flutter even though Danny tried his best to generate some interest by looking cute and acting smart within the limited space given to him despite several limitations on characterization front.

The music by Santhosh Dhayanithi and Sai Bhaskar along with the cinematography of B Anandkumar does not make any sense due to an ordinary story and it’s incompetent execution.

Strictly avoidable even for dog lovers. This is not that one movie in which the cute canine excites with various path-breaking adventures by tracking and punishing the criminals. Danny is wasted in an inappropriate role which surely makes him also feel ashamed of doing.

Rating: 2/5
