The trailer of Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi’s Mimi got dropped today to a rousing response. Kriti Sanon is playing the role of a surrogate mother in this film inspired by the 2010 Marathi movie Mala Aai Vhhaychy which won the National Award for best feature film in Marathi in 2011.

Talking about her character in the film, Kriti Sanon said, “I am very excited. It’s based on the subject of surrogacy but actually it’s the story of this young girl who wants to be an actor. She’s a dancer in Mandawa and she ends up being a surrogate for a couple. Then, the things that follow change her life and also change her as a person.”

Kriti has put on 15 kg weight for this character which was a challenging one for her as it was close to her heart and wanted to give out the best. “For me, putting on so many kilos is actually a challenge as it’s very new for my body. I have to in a way fight my metabolism and increase my calorie intake to gain that much weight in a short time,” the actress narrated about the hard work she had put in behind her role in Mimi.

The trailer of Mimi released today shows different stages of pregnancy of Kriti Sanon’s character, Mimi.  It begins with an exciting first trimester and ends up in a stressful last one. Pankaj Tripathi too is at his best as the guy who motivates Kriti to turn into a surrogate mother.

Mimi, an A.R. Rahman musical is directed by Laxman Utekar, a cinematographer turned director who earlier worked for English Vinglish and Dear Zindagi as photographer and Luka Chuppi as the director. Sai Tamhanhar, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak appear in other important roles in this film.

Bankrolled by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Mimi which has skipped theatrical release due to Covid-19 is all set to premiere on popular digital platform Netflix on July 30.
