Karisma Kapoor’s has been one of the most eagerly anticipated web debuts among the Bollywood divas of that vintage. Hence it follows that her debut web series, Alt Balaji and ZEE5’s Mentalhood, has been a much-awaited OTT offering in recent times.
Well, the long wait is almost over, coz Mentalhood is slated to drop on the two streaming platforms on 11th March, in close tandem with the day the world celebrates womanhood – International Women’s Day.
The trailer for Mentalhood that released today on Alt Balaji and ZEE5, has perked up our interest in the series to no end. The trailer is a poignant depiction of the pain and the pleasure, the agony and the ecstasy, of that, trying though blissful journey called motherhood.
The series, through the travails of six parents, conveys that motherhood is not an exercise to be followed to the T out of a written manual. Nor is it a test of a mother’s parenting skills that have to be passed at any cost.
The trailer starts off with the portrayal of the different kinds of moms that populate the world of motherhood – the hassled kids-centric mom, Meira Sharma (Karisma Kapoor), the power working mom, Namrata (Shilpa Shukla), the helicopter mom, Anuja (Sandhya Mridul), the fad-fascinated mom Diksha (Shruti Seth), the batty perfectionist mom, Priety (Tillotama Shome), and…..a hands-on dad, Aakash (Dino Morea).
But very quickly, it descends into darker space – depicting the chaos and pitfalls of motherhood in poignant snatches and glimpses – Meira’s son is caught trying to run away from home and is brought back by a few alert policemen; Priety’s daughter locks herself into her room in a flurry of tears, accusing her mother of never ever understanding her fears; Aakash’s kids demand to know where their mother is; and so on, thus conveying that bringing up kids is nothing better than a tightrope walk.
The 3-minute long trailer gives ample indication of the nuances of the series, and we must say, we like.
Mentalhood premieres on ALTBalaji and ZEE5 on 11th March 2020.
