All is well that ends well in love
Love is the staple diet for any medium and digital platforms are not an exception. In addition to rom-coms, horror-coms, thriller-coms, adult-coms, crime-coms, it’s the time for Comedy Couple to prove their mettle on OTT. This Yodlee Film presentation produced by Vikram Mehra and Siddharth Anand Kumar is streaming now on Zee5.
Story-line
Deep Sharma (Saqib Saleem) and Zoya Batra (Shweta Basu Prasad) are in a live-in relationship and by profession; they are the standup comedian couple. When everything is falling into the groove, the over dosage of smooches even in public places renders them homeless thereby leading to multitudes of setbacks.
Now in search of an abode, the Comedy Couple managed to sneak into a flat by giving the assurance to the landlord that they will submit the marriage certificate within one month. As plans go awry, like in many love stores the breakup ensues forcing Deep to seek refuge at his friend Rohan’s (Aadar Malik) place while Zoya gets cozier with her single mom Zohra Batra (Pooja Bedi).
After a lot of dilly-dallying, the Comedy Couple realizes their shortcomings and goes for a patch up. All is well that ends well in love with the couple getting reunited on a standup stage in the end after some heartbreaking moments.
Performances
Saqib Saleem tries hard to get himself gelled into the role of a comedian lover and he could succeed with just above average marks.
Shweta Basu Prasad is more spontaneous and bubbly adding the much-needed fizz to the character of Zoya.
Pranay Manchanda as Siddhu and Aadar Malik are the pick among all other actors who played key roles in making all those hilarious moments enjoyable.
Rajesh Tailang as Deep’s father Mukesh and Pooja have done total justification to their roles as required in the story. The highly talented Rajesh Tailang has gone one step further by displaying admirable versatility in this film.
Behind the scenes
The comedy part was handled with aplomb while the romantic part has fallen flat as it’s got predictable without any shades of novelty.
The court scene involving Rohan and ‘gaumutra’ scene stand apart and these are the saving grace of this rom-com.
Raghav Raj Kakker, Kashyap Kapoor, Bikas Ranjan Mishra, and Gaurav Sharma are the main architects of this lovable comedy while Nachiket Samant, the director has skillfully steered the story despite some pitfalls.
Karthik Rao, Tanmaya Bhatnagar, Reuksh Alagh, and Ravi Singhal have come up with some soulful numbers to pep up the narrative and they remain the highlights of this film.
Verdict & Rating
Leaving aside some predictable blocks which remind short flicks of the Awkward Conversations series, Comedy Couple is watchable mainly to experience some hearty laughs and noteworthy performances from the lead pair Saleem and Shweta. Go for it!
