Scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2025, Kurukshetra marks Netflix India’s very first venture into mythological storytelling. This ambitious project has been envisioned as a two-part epic, with each part consisting of nine episodes, allowing ample room to explore the depth and complexity of the Mahabharata.
What sets this adaptation apart from earlier retellings is its unique narrative lens. Instead of focusing only on the central heroes, the story unfolds through the perspective of 18 different warriors who fought on the battlefield. Each character brings a new layer of emotion and conflict, highlighting themes of loyalty, vengeance, sacrifice, and the painful choices that arise when family turns into foe.
The Team Behind Kurukshetra
The series is spearheaded by Anu Sikka, who conceptualized the show and serves as creator. It is being produced under the Tipping Point banner by Sikka, Alok Jain, and Ajit Andhare. The writing and direction have been entrusted to Ujaan Ganguly, while the poetic verses within the series are penned by none other than the legendary Gulzar, adding a lyrical richness to the storytelling.
Speaking about the project, Sikka explains, “The battle of Kurukshetra remains one of the most symbolic conflicts ever told, representing the collision of destiny, moral choices, and human duty. Through animation and multi-layered storytelling, we aim to revisit these 18 days with new depth and perspective.”
