A Night of Tribute and Triumph at the 2025 MAMA Awards – Day 2
The second night of the 2025 MAMA Awards took place on November 29 at Hong Kong’s iconic Kai Tak Stadium, delivering a mix of somber reflection and electrifying performances. Producers and artists alike joined hands and offered condolences to the victims of the recent Tai Po apartment fire, which claimed 128 lives on November 26.
One of the most poignant moments of the night came when legendary actor Chow Yun-fat—whose attendance was confirmed only shortly before the event—stood before thousands and requested a minute of silence. As the house lights dimmed, audience members rose in unity, honoring the government-declared three-day mourning period that had led to cancellations and scaled-back cultural activities across the city.
In solidarity, event organizers refrained from the usual glitz of the red carpet and adopted a more understated stage direction. Presenters and performers voiced their condolences, with many dressed in black as a symbolic gesture.
Award Highlights
Kim Hye Soo served as host for Day 2, guiding the audience through an evening of emotional resonance and high-profile wins. The grand prizes reflected the year’s biggest names in K-pop:
- G-Dragon clinched Artist of the Year and Best Male Artist, adding Best Dance Performance – Male Solo for his track Too Bad featuring Anderson .Paak.
- Stray Kids earned Album of the Year for KARMA.
- aespa dominated the dance and group categories with Whiplash, winning Best Female Group and Best Dance Performance – Female.
- Other notable victors included Rosé of BLACKPINK (Best Female Artist and Best Vocal Performance – Solo), SEVENTEEN (Best Male Group and Best Dance Performance – Male Group), and DAY6 (Best Band Performance).
Special Segments & Adjustments
A planned promotional tie-in with Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters went ahead for the film’s fictional girl group Huntrix, who performed their OST Golden. However, a cameo by the fictional boy group The Saja Boys was pulled from the lineup due to its grim-reaper motif, deemed unsuitable for the evening’s memorial tone.
