Prime Video has unveiled Zero Se Restart, a documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film 12th Fail. This film delves into the emotional and creative aspects of the production, providing a glimpse into the various challenges faced, the sources of inspiration, and the overall filmmaking experience.
On Wednesday, the streaming service announced the launch of Zero Se Restart, which documents the creation of the acclaimed film 12th Fail, helmed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Directed and edited by Jaskunwar Singh Kohli, the documentary is produced by Vinod Chopra Films and is currently available for streaming in India as well as in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide on Prime Video, according to a press release.
Zero Se Restart offers audiences an in-depth look at the filmmaking journey, presenting an honest portrayal of the emotional and creative processes behind 12th Fail, which stars Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr and became a box office hit in October 2023.
The film is inspired by Anurag Pathak’s bestselling novel that follows the journeys of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The documentary emphasizes the challenges, victories, and the unwavering dedication of the cast and crew who brought this inspiring tale to life.
“Zero Se Restart may appear to be merely a behind-the-scenes film, and it certainly fulfills that role. However, I hope viewers uncover a more profound narrative within,” Chopra stated. “I had limited knowledge about how to make ’12th Fail’ at the beginning — and yet, here we are.”
He continued, “It’s a celebration of the courage inherent in all artistic endeavors. It perfectly illustrates that resilience, elegance, and personal growth occur when one allows for a fresh start.“
Director Jaskunwar Singh Kohli noted that the documentary was created from over 18,000 minutes of raw footage captured over three years.
“For aspiring filmmakers, ‘Zero Se Restart’ is a treasure trove — a comprehensive resource to learn from the remarkable and witty VVC himself. I’m excited that, thanks to Prime Video, we can finally share this with a global audience,” Kohli expressed.
Vikrant Massey reflected on the emotional experience of revisiting the project through the documentary.
“Zero Se Restart reignited the fear, passion, and faith. We filmed in unpredictable locations, capturing moments without a safety net. Witnessing Mr. Chopra guide a young team — armed with endless revisions and initially unmet interest in the story — was genuinely inspiring. I hope this documentary motivates others to pursue their dreams,” he shared.
