Upcoming Holiday‑Weekend OTT Line-up

In addition to the titles celebrating Independence Day, this upcoming holiday weekend offers a variety of genre options on OTT platforms. Kicking off the lineup is the mystery film The Drop, which debuts on JioHotstar on August 11. Starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar, this thriller centers on a perilous first date. Following that, on August 13, Amazon Prime Video will release the spy series Butterfly, featuring Daniel Dae Kim as a former U.S. intelligence officer in South Korea, who is pursued by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a lethal, sociopathic young agent tasked with eliminating him.

Also premiering on August 13 is Netflix’s adult animated comedy Fixed, where Adam DeVine lends his voice to a dog who has just 24 hours left before his neutering. Further enriching the lineup on the same day is TVF’s Court Kacheri, a courtroom comedy focused on the relationship between a father and son, starring Ashish Verma and Pavan Malhotra on SonyLIV. Finally, on August 15, Vanessa Kirby takes the lead in Netflix’s crime drama Night Always Comes, portraying a woman in dire need of quick cash.

Alien: Earth (JioHotstar)

Cast: Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav.

About the series: This prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1978 film Alien is crafted by Noah Hawley of Fargo fame. Set on Earth, the horror series explores the story of a young woman named Wendy (Sydney Chandler) alongside a group of soldiers dealing with the fallout from the crash of a space vessel. This series reintroduces the famed Xenomorph from the Alien franchise, a highly anticipated element for fans.

Saare Jahan Se Accha (Netflix)

Cast: Pratik Gandhi, Sunny Hinduja, Suhail Nayyar, Kritika Kamra, Tillotama Shome, Rajat Kapoor, Anup Soni
Release date: August 13
About the series: Created by Gaurav Shukla, this period Hindi series is set in the politically charged atmosphere of the 1970s and features Pratik Gandhi as Indian spy Vishnu Shankar, who finds himself in confrontation with ISI agent Murtaza Mallik (Sunny Hinduja) from across the border. Directed by Sumit Purohit, the series highlights the untold stories of intelligence operatives.

Tehran (Zee5)

Cast: John Abraham, Neeru Bajwa, Manushi Chhillar
Release date: August 14
About the film: This long-awaited Hindi film finally launches digitally. John Abraham portrays ACP Rajeev Kumar of the Delhi police, who becomes a suspect in three nations: Iran, Israel, and India. Driven to clear his name, he embarks on a perilous mission. Directed by Arun Gopalan, this feature is inspired by the 2012 bombing near the Israeli embassy in Delhi.

Andhera (Amazon Prime Video)

Cast: Prajakta Koli, Surveen Chawla, Priya Bapat, Karanvir Malhotra
Release date: August 14
About the series: Produced by Excel Entertainment, this horror series delves into the mysterious disappearance of a young woman, with Inspector Kalpana Kadam (Priya Bapat) and troubled medical student Jay (Karanvir Malhotra) working to unravel the chilling case. Over its eight episodes, the series reveals a pervasive darkness that threatens everyone involved. Directed by Raaghav Dar, this psychological thriller promises to captivate audiences.
