The upcoming documentary Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story will hit screens on September 12, 2025, with its trailer already sparking strong anticipation among cricket fans. The film follows the remarkable journey of former India U-19 cricket captain Unmukt Chand, exploring not only his moments of glory but also the personal and professional challenges that shaped his career.

A Story of Triumph, Setbacks, and Comebacks

Unbroken offers an in-depth look into Chand’s evolution as a cricketer and as an individual. From his meteoric rise in the youth circuit to facing difficulties at the senior level, and finally rebuilding his career overseas, the documentary highlights a journey marked by resilience and determination. Combining candid interviews, rare archival visuals, and emotional storytelling, it captures the essence of a sportsman who tasted success early but had to fight to stay relevant in the highly competitive world of Indian cricket.

The timing of its release—just before the start of India’s domestic season—may reignite important conversations around the intense pressures faced by emerging cricketers and the fine balance between fame and fading away.

The Early Promise

Born in Delhi on March 26, 1993, Unmukt Chand first came into the spotlight when he captained India’s Under-19 squad to victory in the 2012 ICC U-19 World Cup. His unforgettable unbeaten century in the final against Australia immediately established him as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents. He quickly followed this success with prolific performances in domestic cricket, averaging over 57 in his debut first-class season and delivering impactful innings for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy.

The Struggle Beyond Stardom

However, translating youth success into a stable senior career proved to be a steep challenge. Despite his skills, Chand’s inconsistency in the IPL and domestic matches gradually pushed him out of the spotlight. This period tested his patience and mental strength, but living true to the spirit of the documentary’s title, he reinvented himself by moving abroad and playing in newer cricket leagues, including representing the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC).

Behind the Making of Unbroken

The film is directed by Raghav Khanna and jointly produced by Riverland Entertainment and Tudip Entertainment. It brings together a strong creative team, with producers Deepti Agarwal, Jaishree Khanna, Tushar Upshankar, and Raghav Khanna, along with Priyanka Chaudhary as co-producer. Their goal is not only to narrate a sports story but also to present a larger human tale of grit, self-discovery, and perseverance.

Director Raghav Khanna explained that with documentaries gaining increasing popularity in India, filmmakers now have the responsibility to deliver projects that are both engaging and meaningful.

Music as an Emotional Connector

In an innovative step, Zee Music has partnered with the makers to release the film’s soundtrack. Khanna emphasized the role of music in elevating the narrative, saying that certain emotions can only be expressed through melody, adding another layer of connection for viewers. The integration of music aims to provide audiences with both an impactful and immersive experience.

More Than a Cricket Film

Ultimately, Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story is not just about the journey of an individual player—it reflects the broader themes of resilience, persistence, and the ability to reinvent oneself in the face of setbacks. Chand’s story will resonate not only with cricket enthusiasts but also with anyone who has chased dreams, faced obstacles, and chosen to rise again.
