The beloved musical The Sound of Music celebrated its 60th anniversary earlier this year, and the surviving cast members have maintained their close friendships over the decades.

Directed by Robert Wise, the acclaimed film debuted on March 2, 1965. Its storyline was drawn from the true experiences of the von Trapp family, who escaped Austria to avoid the Nazi regime.

Starring Julie Andrews and the late Christopher Plummer in principal roles, the film remains a classic.

The former child actors from the movie have stayed connected for 60 years and recently held a reunion in Florence, Italy.

Kym Karath, who portrayed Gretl, the youngest von Trapp sibling, shared photos of their reunion on her social media platform.

Karath noted that the on-screen siblings have maintained a strong bond throughout these six decades.

“I believe the enduring nature of our friendship is rooted in the qualities that sustain all lasting friendships, even though ours began at a film studio: remaining close, loyal, and supporting one another,” she remarked.

Regarding the film’s lasting charm, she expressed, “Beyond the enchanting melodies and stunning scenery, it tells the story of a real family that loved each other and showed remarkable bravery.”

Karath revealed that the actors also share a friendship with the actual von Trapp family.

“Here’s an interesting tidbit – the family portrayed in the film is friends with the real family,” Karath shared. “I recently had a delightful conversation with Elizabeth von Trapp, daughter of Werner. Werner was portrayed by Duane Chase, and they formed a friendship. After Werner passed away, he left Duane his exquisite Austrian jacket,” she commented in a CNN interview.
