Despite lacking backing from a notable OTT platform, S Line gained significant buzz online following its historic showcase at Cannes.
The new K-drama S Line attracted attention even before its release earlier this month due to its daring approach to romantic relationships. Picture your previous romantic entanglements being revealed by glowing red lines floating above your head—this is the intriguing premise of the series. Featuring Lee Soo-hyuk, Lee Da-hee, and Arin, the show employs this unique concept to uncover hidden truths. However, when a shocking murder occurs, the narrative transforms into a suspenseful mystery. As S Line approaches its final episode this week, fans are captivated and eagerly anticipating how the story will conclude.
According to My Drama List, S Line narrates the tale of a mysterious red line that materializes above individuals’ heads, linking them to those they have been intimate with. The character Han Ji Uk is a detective seeking to uncover the truth behind this enigmatic red line. Lee Gyu Jin is depicted as an eccentric high school teacher, while Sin Hyeon Hop is a high school student who has been able to perceive the red line since birth.
Before the show’s debut, director Ahn Joo-young discussed the creative decisions involved in adapting the webtoon into a K-drama at a press conference.
In a statement to the Korean Herald, he shared, “When we first encountered the source material and began the project, we questioned whether it would be feasible to visually represent a world filled with S Lines. Therefore, we decided to maintain the universe but express it differently. This led to the concept that only certain individuals could see the S Lines, particularly through glasses as a medium.”
“I believed the original work fundamentally tells a story about people. It mainly explores how individuals transform once the lines appear and are made visible to others. I thought the central theme revolved around the emergence of new desires alongside human nature, so I aimed to portray these changes through the characters with the S Lines. Consequently, we also developed new characters,” Ahn Joo-young further elaborated.
Even without the backing of a prominent OTT platform, S Line sparked considerable interest online following its groundbreaking premiere at Cannes. The drama launched its first two episodes during Canneseries, the Cannes International Series Festival, which serves as a showcase for top TV shows from around the world.
While S Line is not available on Netflix or Amazon Prime, it can be streamed on Wavve in India. However, accessibility may still be restricted in certain regions.
