On the first night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, Julianne Nicholson (Hacks) and Bryan Cranston (The Studio) were among the honored recipients, joined by Shawn Hatosy (The Pitt) and Merritt Wever (Severance). Key awards included TV Movie for Rebel Ridge, Outstanding Animation for Arcane, and several categories for The Penguin, covering hairstyling, costumes, prosthetic makeup, visual effects, sound editing, and sound mixing. Andor also secured accolades for costumes, production design, picture editing, and special visual effects.

Leading the pack was Apple TV+’s The Studio, winning nine Emmys, followed closely by HBO Max’s The Penguin with eight, and Apple’s Severance with six. Disney+’s Andor, Netflix’s Arcane, and Love, Death + Robots each won four, with Prime Video’s The Boys and Netflix’s Bridgerton taking home three each. HBO Max’s The Pitt and Netflix’s Adolescence received two awards each.

Maya Rudolph opened the evening with a remark celebrating the real essence of the Emmys, referring to the talented individuals who create the magic behind the scenes. One of the standout moments was when Bridgerton received the Emmy for Outstanding Costumes, with winner John Walter Glaser humorously managing his trousers as they threatened to fall. Desi Lydic, from The Daily Show, accepted the award for Performer in a Short Form Comedy and quipped that her win required watching “too much Fox News,” thanking the “Deep State” TV Academy for her recognition.

In a lighthearted moment, Robby Hoffman from Hacks took to the stage to vape before announcing the winner in the cinematography category.

The Creative Arts Emmys will continue on Sunday with an additional 49 awards to be given out in categories including writing, casting, makeup, and picture editing. The ceremony will be available for streaming on Hulu until October 7.
