Prime Video has officially revealed the first glimpse of its highly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot, introducing Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner as the legendary adventurer Lara Croft. The live-action series, now in production, marks a fresh chapter for the beloved video game franchise and is set to reimagine Croft’s story for a new generation of viewers.
Originally greenlit in May 2024, the series quickly became one of Prime Video’s most talked-about projects. Turner’s casting was first reported later that year in November, sparking excitement among fans eager to see her take on the role. Lara Croft — an archaeologist, explorer, and pop culture icon — has previously been portrayed in blockbuster films by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, making Turner the latest star to embody the character’s fearless spirit.
The ensemble cast boasts an impressive lineup including Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Behind the scenes, the creative force driving the series is equally formidable. Phoebe Waller-Bridge takes on the roles of creator, writer, and executive producer, sharing showrunning duties with Chad Hodge. Jonathan van Tulleken will direct and also serve as an executive producer. The production team includes Crystal Dynamics, Wells Street Productions, Story Kitchen, Legendary Television, and Amazon MGM Studios.
The Tomb Raider saga began in 1996, when the first video game introduced players to Lara Croft’s world of ancient ruins, hidden artifacts, and high-stakes adventure. Over the decades, the franchise has evolved through multiple games, films, and remastered editions, maintaining its status as one of gaming’s most enduring brands. The latest installment, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2018, and two upcoming titles — Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst — are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
This new series is part of a broader partnership between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, developed under Story Kitchen’s first-look deal to bring more Tomb Raider adventures to both television and film.
With Turner leading the charge, Waller-Bridge’s sharp storytelling, and a cast filled with seasoned talent, Prime Video’s Tomb Raider reboot promises to deliver a thrilling mix of action, mystery, and character-driven drama — and could be the definitive Lara Croft for the streaming era.
