The stars were out in Hollywood as the 16th Annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) lit up The Avalon with an evening celebrating outstanding achievements in music for film, television, video games, and beyond. This year’s ceremony crowned Sinners as the night’s biggest winner, taking home three major awards: Song – Feature Film for “I Lied to You,” Song – On-Screen Performance (Miles Caton, “I Lied to You”), and Score – Feature Film by Ludwig Göransson.
The event opened with a moving performance by five-time Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal alongside Afghan artist Aryana Sayeed. Their collaboration, “We Believe in Hope,” honored with the 2025 High Note Global Prize from the United Nations Human Rights, set the tone for the evening. Beal later added to his trophy collection with a win for Score – Independent Film (Rule Breakers).
Diane Warren, a legend in the songwriting world, also had a monumental evening. Her documentary Diane Warren: Relentless earned two HMMAs, including Song – Documentary Film for “Dear Me,” co-performed with Kesha, and Music Documentary – Special Program for director Bess Kargman. Warren’s win follows her 2023 HMMA victory for “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight.
Animated film fans saw KPop Demon Hunters soar with the chart-topping hit “Golden”, recognized as Song – Animated Film. Written by EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, and an international team of songwriters, the track was delivered with flair by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.
Other high-profile wins included:
- Aiyana-Lee for Song – Independent Film (“Highest 2 Lowest”) from Spike Lee’s latest project.
- Lady Gaga and Andrew Watt for Song – TV Show/Limited Series (“The Dead Dance” from Wednesday).
- Composers like Simon Franglen (Avatar: Fire and Ash), Theodore Shapiro (Severance), and Benjamin Wallfisch (Wolf Man).
The Wicked franchise scored two wins, while Tom Howe claimed both Score – Animated Film (Dog Man) and Song – Documentary Series – TV/Limited Series with Sam Ryder. Other multiple winners included Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and F1: The Movie.
In a testament to the global impact of cinematic artistry, A.R. Rahman’s evocative and powerful background score for the film Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life has garnered him the distinguished Hollywood Music in Media Awards 2024. He was honored in the Independent Film (Foreign Language) category at the prestigious Los Angeles event.
From blockbuster film scores to breakthrough streaming music, the 2024 HMMA winners reflect the expanding influence of music across every entertainment platform.
